maggotheart: The Forever War by Joe Haldeman
That is an absolute must, gets my hearty endorsement! Still, I love this book for its hard treatment of the trauma and realities of war, even fictional, rather than the time-dilation, per se.

The best treatment of time travel I've ever seen is a Babylon 5 two-parter called "War Without End". Like all of B5, it's part of a wider story and somewhat hard to fully appreciate as a stand-alone episode. Also, it mixes in heavily with another episode, from two seasons back. It made for some retcons, but it also made for an excellent time-travel story!

In the category of time-loop stories (you know the ones, same event repeating over and over until someone breaks the cycle), I must mention the all-time best SG-1 episode "Window of Opportunity". MUST WATCH!

Thanks for the giveaway! I don't think I'll be entering, but I might yet back another's bid :-)

The game Chrono Trigger is possibly my favorite time travel story. It came out when I was fairly young and was one of the first rpgs I played that had a real impact on me. (making it one of my favorite genres)

Thanks for the giveaway
In for tinyE.

The best time travelling story for me is Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure.
It has humor, it has fun and most of all I really do wonder how many small children spent time in phone boxes trying to dial into the future.
You know that movie with a killer cyborg from the future going after some woman and the son of that woman also sends a guy, who, in the end, turns out to be his father, from the future to protect her. Also its sequel, where another cyborg that looks like the killer from the first movie becomes good and fights a super cyborg that can change shape. I think those movies are awesome.

Thank you!
Some pretty good entries already. Still enough time left for more.
Let's do the time warp again! Or bump the thread. That works too.

bill and ted's excellent adventure, because, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijqnsRqSo2k
Agree on SG1's "Window of Opportunity" - probably the best "Groundhog Day" style story outside the original. Another good one is the short story "All You Zombies" - it's both a natural and a ridiculous extension of time travel paradox.

Thanks very much for the giveaway
The movie A Sound of Thunder. These are the best non-stupid thoughtful logical time travel stories ever.

And if they aren't, I will travel back in time to make them so, so that they are by the time you read this post.
I recently read Stephen King's 11/22/63 and found it surprisingly not your usual SK horror novel at all. Excellent time traveling mechanism that is based on the idea of "If you could go back and change one significant part of history, should you do it?" Very interesting concept if you like historical novels which this sort of is...
And bump.
I would like to recommend the short film La Jetée, because it is an almost unknown film, the style it uses (still photos and a narrator), served as inspiration to other film and it is short.

Please count me in and thanks for the fiveaway Gaunathor.
