Hey folks,

I saw a thread regarding "games that you hate, but everyone else loves" a couple of day ago, and it got me thinking. I'm a longtime gamer and I often find that popular or critical opinion runs opposite to my personal tastes. I just love imperfect games. I find their bugs, quirks, and funky mechanics really give them a ton of personality.

What I'd love to know, mainly because I love playing games like this, what are some games that you really enjoy but have been underrated/ridiculed. I know this is a PC gaming site, but naming console games is fine too. I'm sure most of us play everything.

I'll start off:

1. Supreme Commander 2: I love this game. It's way more streamlined than the original, and the unit movement AI is fabulous. It's also a great "beer and pretzels" multiplayer game. On top of that the terrible voice acting is truly legendary.

2. Just Cause 2: I really think that this one of the most "slept-on" games of recent years. It's gorgeous, well optimized, and utterly insane. Its disregard for physics, obsession with firepower, and love of B-movie schlock makes it the very definition of a "fun game".

3. Viking: Battle for Asgard: I bought this action/RPG hybrid on the cheap. It's a ton of fun and fills the gaping hole of viking-themed games. I'm not sure if it ever made over to the PC, but find yourself a cheap console copy. It's well worth the money.

4. Turok (2008): Terrible plot and bad voice acting, what's not to love? Add a full list of dinosaurs and generic space-solider to stab and arrow, and you've got a great game. It clearly doesn't live up to its lineage, but a ton of fun on its own. Oh, and there's mutant scorpions.

Wheel of Time

Level design was awesome for the time of release, Unreal engine was nicely polished, visual effects for sorcery and magic stuff were made extremely well and with style, best architecture for medieval castles, title screen made me "scream" (metaphorically) out of joy when I first saw it.

I still remember crawling through the castle in rain, avoiding deadliest fog tentacles; facing the mirror image came into fierce enemy; knights in white cloaks who imprisoned me and tried to kill eventually; throwing Trolloc off the bridge by my own created tornado... ah the great times!

Sad this game was lost for the game audience :(
I would buy it even for $60 given that it made available for digital distribution (dislike physical copies that much).

You don't seriously think legal copy was available in Russia in 1999, do you? :)))
