michaelleung: Promise I don't have to download third-party maps and mods?
You don't - not yet, anyway. :P

CyPhErIoN: is it long term?

We've launched the servers for a try-out for one month to see how it will work and how popular this will be among our users. So right now we have one month to play some crazy multiplayer matches in UT 2k4. Then we'll see what's next.

Gragt: If they do Onslaught matches, which is where UT2004 shines when compared to UT, you do not need to be extremely good to be useful, as long as you know where to be at the right time to support the assault, Besides I imagine this will be mostly done for fun and not for PWNING NOOBS!
For now the servers are set for 16-player DM on all maps except for the duel ones. If the servers prove to be popular, we'll open up the full 32 slots and bring out them vehicles. :)
Edit: On a side note, due to latency concerns, we'll play mostly on the EU server, but we'll try to visit the US one as well. Just don't be surprised to see us being pwned a lot at 200+ pings. ;)

Considering some of us play games for a living over here, we hardly needed an excuse. ;)
We'll have access to admin commands, but we're still noobs when it comes to what our UT2k4 server can actually do, so let's take it one step at a time. :)

Thanks a lot for the great game today! :) I promise I'll do something about my skill and dish out a helluva lot more punishment next time. :3
Too bad that I couldn't join you today, had some technical problems :/
Everything is OK now so see you tomorrow and if there will be enough players we will switch to Onslaught for some epic vehicle fights!
Any hints on a good game server provider who hosts UT2k4 servers in Australia, then? Can't give you any promises, but if we find a good one, there's a chance we might set up a third one. Are pings decent between east Asia and Australia?

rastlin80: I thnk i going to pick this up. The reason i usually don't play online is because I don't spend hours practicing so when i go online everyone complains about the noob.

BladderOfDoom: Yeah same I like to enjoy my games not work at them. My flat mate did that with beat em ups and ended up having noone to play against, constantly losing because you dont spend hours on the practice mode gets dull fast.
Also just played UT:2004 first time today. was worth every penny.

Glad you were having fun :) Hope to see you again soon on server :D
OK, now let's see how Onslaught works for you guys... :)
Well it's not my decision to make, but if the current population of a dozen-or-so players on Onslaught keeps up, I think it's worth to keep the servers alive. :)
We'll need to set up a sticky thread for each server soon, so that we (and you) could arrange future games ahead of time. Let's face it, most people play TF2 and CoD4 for online FPS games, and it's doubtful that a UT2k4 server will be full all the time... So we'll need to organize a bit so everyone intereested knows when to log on, eh? ;)
Right now I wish we had Tribes 2 and a server for that... Playing UT2k4 made me recall this second best online FPS ever (second after PlanetSide)... :)

Just played couple matches on the US server and got my ass whooped. So I think it's time to go to bed ;)
Eventually we'll implement a vote system, so that you could decide which map and mode you want to play. It's pointless to play Onslaught with 3 people on the server, but they could just vote to play Deathmatch on a small or medium map until more people arrive. :)
With luck Paczyk will have the vote system up and running in a matter of days (he's doing this between other, higher priority tasks, as you can expect;)).
