My rig has served me well for almost 4 years now. But some newer games have been giving it a bit of a difficult time. I'd like to be able to play some recent and upcoming games without horribly bad performance.
I know I could use a better CPU and more RAM. My system -
XP SP3
Athlon II X2 240 (2.8Ghz)
2G RAM
Radeon 4850 512mb
I have about $100 to waste. I was thinking about adding 2GB of RAM, and upgrading the CPU to a Athlon II X4 640 (3.0Ghz). I have a copy of Win7 somewhere that my dad gave me.
I'm not as tech smart as I was 4 years ago. So I was hoping some people here could double check my ideas here.
I won't have enough money to build a completely new rig until at least the end of the year. Would this be a wise investment to last me through 2013? Would I see a significant performance increase in games like Far Cry 3, Aliens, The Witcher 2, and Skyrim? Or would this just be a complete waste of money? Should I just wait to build a new modern rig?
Sorry if I am asking stupid questions. I'm just really out of the loop with hardware. I don't want to do anything stupid.
