StingingVelvet: GOG's compatibility work has shown up elsewhere before, I'm sure this is the same thing. It's actually nicer of Origin to indicate the games come from here, in my opinion, than to just list them and not reference the work GOG did.
If that is indeed what they're trying to do, in which case they're not doing a very good job of it. I notice they're also undercutting GOG on the prices, and I doubt very much that means we'll see the price on those games here drop to a similar level.

liquidsnakehpks: EA has noticed that there is a decent market for old classics and has jumped in to make a cash grab. I always knew this would happen , with gog's popularity growing each day , these are the consequences everyone else doing it now too.
^ THIS.

To OP: Steam is doing the same, if you haven't noticed. RCT 1 and 2 just arrived on Steam, as well as Baldur's Gate, Rise of Nations, Age of Mythology, Summoner etc. Big companies didn't believe there was a market for old titles. GOG proved them wrong, and now they are in it for the money.
Would have been hilarious if they had offered GOG keys.

But they're more expensive on Origin.

arent companie sby defintion in it for the money ?

they are not a charity they excist to make money

and as long as the price is right it can only be good to see old games re released and made available again
As for the others: EA is a wild capitalist moneygraber, and has always been. The community didn't respond to this very well (two Worst Company of the Year awards), and now they are trying to prove they are good guys. Money back guarantee system, sales on Origin, on the house free games, now this. But they are still a competing company. They cut prices under GOG to make people buy good old games from their shop. Which of course smart people won't do, because GOG is a lot more honest, has no DRM, and overall a much much better company. But they are going to make money out of it regardless.

Once again; they are not cheaper. First, they have regional pricing meaning that we Europeans pay €5 as opposed to GOG's €4.5. Second, they sell each of the games separately. Wing Commander 1 for 5 bucks, Ultima 1 for 5 bucks, Starflight 1 for 5 bucks. Need I go on?

I didn't say this was a bad thing to begin with. Competition is usually good for the customer. I do support old games popping up on Steam and Origin. However, if they are the versions GOG made available on newer systems, then it is only the right thing to do to state that on their systems. Which they did not do. Also, GOG games come DRM free. Origin and Steam games do not. This decides the question for me.

You are right. However, my point still stands strong. GOG is a better decision.

Sorry, what? On Origin they're $4.99, on GOG they're $5.99. How does that make Origin more expensive?

True, but for the American market (which is the most important), and for those games that are sold separately in both places, they are cheaper than GOG.

On the other hand you're absolutely right about the rest. Their regional pricing means that for me, those games that an American would get for $5 would cost me $9 if I were to buy them on Origin.

Read my post above. It's not $4.99 for Europeans, but €4.99. In addition, Origin sells the games separately rather than in packs. Thus, Wing Commander I goes for 5 bucks, while Ultima I also goes for 5 bucks, Starflight 1 goes for 5 bucks, etc.

MailBoxAssassin: Just logged into my Origin client for some Mass Effect 2 and saw this... is GOG now on Origin like Steam games used to be sold through Impulse???

Ok, so we had this conversation thrice :

I didn't realize that yesterday that's all.

How dare EA sell their games on their own client... just bloody awful!

Sneaky ninja edit. :P

For the American market, they are still not necessarily cheaper. Yes, Dungeon Keeper, Lands of Lore 3, Ultima VII and other games sold standalone here might be somewhat cheaper on Origin, but games that are sold in packs here are significantly more expensive. Hell, Ultima IV, which is free here, is sold for 5 bucks there.

VABlitz: Why on earth would you have an Origin account?
I caved, I had to play the new SimCity game. I now feel a bit daff.
