I am going to do a GOG give away for my own entertainment and hopefully to find a cool game in the processes.

There was a really cool game back in the early nineties called “Star Legions.” The premise of the game was mission based. Each mission started were you were given a fleet and an invasion force. Then you were assigned a planet to invade (which ranged from being inhabited by Stone Age nomads to high tech rival alien empires. How you took over the planet was up to you. You could bombard them into submission or land troops on the planets and take over there cities. The more intact and the faster you took over a world the more prestige and wealth you would accumulate.

It was also a buggy the UI was bad but it was a blast. But cannot find anything else on the market like it.

Here is where you come in. Check out the info about the game here:

http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/star-legions

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkvob4-KGq8

To the person who finds me a game that is like Star Legions and a link to where I can buy it in a format that works on Widows 7 I will gift to them $5 worth of GOG games.

Here is the criteria that I consider a must to win the contest:

1. You have to provide me with a link were the game can be legally purchased or legally freely downloaded.

2. The game must be fully functional on Windows 7

3. The gameplay’s primary focus has to be about executing planetary invasion (not just an aspect like MOO2 or as a plot device like in "Universe at War: Earth Assault" or “Jeff Wayne's The War of the Worlds”)

4. The game has to be a strategy game

5. The game must be playable and fun

Note: If more than one game is submitted then I will choose the one that most reminds me of Star Legions. Also am disqualifying Star Fleet 2: Krellan Commander as Star Legions is more or less its expansion.

Good Luck!

Here you are! Carrier Command by Microplay was a good one, like Space Legions kinda.

And then the EA game Space Hulk was good too.

Enjoy! I hope you like them!

Is Star Fleet Deluxe about invasions or space battles?
It isn't about invasions, but maybe you would like Star Wolves 1-3. (1 is fairly buggy though).

You can get the first one here: http://www.gog.com/gamecard/star_wolves
Or get them all on Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/search/?snr=1_4_4__12&term=star+wolves

They're single player sci-fi/strategy type games which focuses a lot on player choices. If you're not into RPG elements, it may be a pass, but other than that the games are really fun and have solar systems created. Your choices determine who you befriend/make an enemy out of, and how your journey takes you. In 3 for instance, you can run into an Alien race and have to "deal" with them. The combat is real time which has you micromanaging your pilots and mothership.

I am sorry I don't know of any games just like the one you wanted, but I thought this might interest you a bit.

Zookie: Is Star Fleet Deluxe about invasions or space battles?
I believe it is Space Battles as the Star Fleet game came later with the invasion factor.

You may want to try Empire Deluxe as Mark Baldwin went on to co-design Empire Deluxe after his work on Star Legions was complete.

From the manual:

Star Fleet Deluxe is a strategic interplanetary war game in the Star Fleet series, which to date has included Star Fleet I – The War Begins!, Star Fleet II – Krellan Commander (both published by Interstel Corporation), and Star Legions (published by Mindcraft). This series chronicles the life and death struggle for control of our galaxy during Galactic War II. This conflict is a crusade of revenge by the Krellan Empire, allied with the Zaldron Empire, to destroy the democratic United Galactic Alliance (UGA), which had humiliated the Krellans during the first galactic war (“the galactic war to end all galactic wars”).

The Earth is the principal member of the UGA, which has a sphere of influence of approximately 320 light years in diameter, occupying a volume of approximately 17 million cubic light years. The UGA consists of 395 inhabited member planets, of which 27 are home worlds, 185 are colonies (both dependent and independent), and 183 are pioneer planets (only with outposts and bases).

The Krellan Empire is a warrior-based society. Krellans are warm-blooded humanoids and as a race are extremely aggressive and courageous. They live to conquer and eradicate the weaker intelligent species from the galaxy, except for use as their slaves. Krellans do have a strong sense of honor and duty. For a Krellan to die in battle is the greatest honor of all. Thus the old Krellan motto: “To live is to conquer and to conquer is to live!” This philosophy that is ingrained in their society and taught to them from birth is what makes them such a dangerous enemy. Until their stunning setback in Galactic War I, when they were humbled (“tricked”) by the UGA, they had never known defeat. That is why they are consumed by a burning obsession for revenge during the current war.

I am not so much looking of a space empire game as much as a more narrow focus of a game about the invasion of worlds or a world. So not a game were you can invade worlds but a game where the gameplay as all about the invasion of worlds or a world.

For example if I was using this criteria for a board game about D-Day. I would not want Axis and Allies (even though you can perform the Normandy landings in the game). I would be looking for Axis & Allies: D-Day, which as all about the landings at Normandy.

Sorry to be so picky but I have been looking for a game to recapture Star Legions for me for a long time.
Well, Hostile Waters here on GOG is relatively similar.
Star Fleet command?

How about Salvation Prophecy? It's a hybrid action/strategy/sim/combat sim, and it may have something similar to what you're looking for:

This also sounds promising :

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/659943965/planetary-annihilation-a-next-generation-rts
It's a fantasy game and not scifi, but Eador Genesis?

I've only just started playing but you're an immortal being living on the astral plane who descends to the mortal realm to conquer fragments of worlds floating in the void before they disappear by subduing their existing rulers or other immortals. You get graded on how efficiently you conquer the fragment, and conquering territories gives you access to more starting resources for the next conquest I guess.
Sadly is seems that there is no game out there like Star Legions because if no one on the GOG forum could find one I musts assume that none exists... :(

But I appreciate the everyone suggestions. I think that mrcrispy83 recommended something that is closest to what I was looking for. Thanks to everyone for your help!
I'm glad to have been of help, even if wasn't exactly what you wanted.
