Zingrad: I can still boot up my old Genesis without fear of it melting down due to ham handed engineering. These new consoles are just a big joke.

KevO392: No they are just expected to do much more. They are expected to run games that come close to if not equal in some cases PC quality (its a generalization please dont flame me) while at the same time costing much less than a PC that would be required to run the same titles (once again, being general here). There are going to be bugs, it's inevitable. And while this doesnt excuse the fact that Microsoft hasnt fixed the problem after 3-4 years I can at least understand why it happens. And yes I have a 360 and yes it has red ringed on me...twice...and one disc drive error, but I will still defend it as a good platform for gaming.

You can't be serious. You can't be defending faulty machinery on the basis that it is expect to move more gears and jiggums. Do you know what I expect from my purchase? I expect it to work. And not just long enough until it runs out of warranty. I want to be able to get it out again in, say, 10 years time and re-live the times by kicking back and playing some old games.

Unfortunately that's not how the electronic industry in general works any more. Also anything with moving parts isn't a question of "IF" it will fail, but "WHEN" it will fail. That includes optical and platter based hard drives (as opposed to flash memory drives). The biggest reason your Genesis still works after all these years is the lack of moving parts (assuming you didn't have the CD add-on, but that's also less likely to fail than current drives because of the slower speed of the drive).
Technology changes, as does reliability. Expectations have to as well, sad fact, but it's true.
Well my Mark 1 Japanese Sega Saturn still works as well as the day it was made. They dont make them like they used to.
