tinyE: The HD died, plain and simple.

I think it happened when my copilot and I decided to shut the computer down and while we were discussing doing that the computer read our lips and decided to act on it's own. :D

Real answer: I think it may have been overheating but who knows? You are talking to a tech moron times ten.

t4n3: It was probably just the circuit board on it that went out then. Otherwise it would of sounded like a rock tumbler. The circuit boards can be replaced on those with a minimal of fuss. Just find a good tech or if you are willing to ship it I can take a look at it (free of charge). Try and get your save games off it.
A good tech did take a look at it, he called it FUBAR. He replaced it with one twice it's size for just a few bucks so honestly I'm pretty happy about the whole situation, not that I wouldn't like my saves and "photos" back.

Am I derailing this thread?
The original SimCity. Loading that 5.25" floppy up in DOS never felt so good, besides when I was sneaking LSL sessions when my family wasn't home.
I have a few:

Europa 1400 and The Guild Renaissance

These are more business and life simulators than a city building game, but if you work hard, you can create your own cities, with extra detail. So not your typical city building game, but I see them as pretty detailed city building games.

Grand Ages Rome

I liked how it let you create yourself in the game. Create a character, and be an actual governer with skills and stats, instead of being nameless or forced into some role you don't wanna be. I don't know many city building games that let you do that, for me that makes it extra fun. I wish I did know more like that.

Nomad_Soul: My personal favorite is SSI/Stormfront's D&D Stronghold game. Not to be confused with the later, unrelated Stronghold series.
If your a fan of D&D strategy games, try this:

Awesome game

Not a city building game though.

Agreed, and wishlist.

OK, no prob then.
Mob Rule
Soul Blazer.

...what?

(Honestly still a big fan of SimCity 2k, even though it's probably not the best game you'll find in this thread.)

You could also consider Cultures/Settlers series to be kind of city building games.
Those are great too.
Simcity 2000 + SCURK
Simcity 4 + BATs
Pharaoh.
I haven't played Emperor: rise of the middle kingdom though... so if it'll ever appear here, the preference might change.
