Wow. this is almost impossible to figure out since his bibliography is so extensive. I just read a few months ago "Under The Dome" and it was pretty good. I would characterize his books as having unbelievably good setups and starts, with a strong yet sometimes sluggish unraveling and the endings are really hits and misses. But the journey is so awesome, that even crappy endings like with "IT", the book is still awesome to me.
If I had to choose one particular book, I would gravitate heavily towards "Carrie", it is developed in such a striking psychological profile, that Mr. King must be a true pervert to be able to get so much into the mind of a teen girl. :P (Not even kidding that much). But alas, there is a book that I consider the epitomy of the darkness that can come out of Mr. King's mind: Black House.
Wow, did that book actually faze me and I can be quite callous at times. Mr. King in the Black House really has it for the little kids and really does gruesome stuff with them. Even I was like, um, sheesh take it easy, that's enough child destruction? I couldn't put that book down till I finished it. And to boot it was quite hefty, not quite as big as "Under the Dome" but almost reaching the size of "The Stand".
I have read 24 of his book with the notable exception of the "Dark Tower" series, which I never got into. In fact didn't even know anything about it until I read the "Black House" and some cameo appearances happen. I also have not read anything that is not horror or dark.
