ceemdee: I use Photoshop.

I just started using it but how do you do individual parts like with the head?

The layers palette. It's your best friend. Do all of your modifications on separate layers so you can delete, turn them on and off and modify them further without needing to touch the original image.

I don't know I guess I just thought we could have a meaningful discussion about art composition and layout with a little humor added to mix. but if you want to keep plastering banjo man from phalanx to every bad cover in history than that's fine too, I don't mind, go for it, no ones stopping you, hell lets start a thread devoted entirely to that.

Just downloaded Photo Pos Pro. Let's see how weird I can get...
Okay, I have one on The Banjo Man thread and now one here. Might look a weird, had to lower the quality and the head may not be positioned right.

Arkose: Frodogorn's eyes will haunt my dreams forever!

That isn't so much bad as it is just bland, generic, and uninspired.

Now THAT, was awesome!
I'm not sure if this is the worst box art, but it's probably the most disrespectful to its subject.
Yes, that is chess grandmaster Garry Kasparov headbutting a stone horse's head. On the box of a Playstation game.

You just broke my brain. Also, that is clearly a chess knight (not horse) and made of wood.
Slightly different kind of cover badness. Try to call this one "art" while keeping the straight face. Unlike many other fine examples, this one looks even worse on the store shelf.

Good one. The Galactic Civilization-games have always had awful covers. It's strange, they spent ages making those games, but when it came to making the covers - possibly the most important tool to attract casual game buyers in retail stores - they can't have spent more than an hour or so... combined.
