I know it has probably been asked before, but what happened to the Coming Soon tab?
GoG is becoming more and more like 3Dr and Apogee all the time.
Not liking it much.

GOG is still releasing at least 1 new game per week. Now where's my Duke Nukem XXXVIII again?
I am talking about not releasing any info anymore (like what games are coming up soon), and doing stupid countdowns and keeping secrets, and twittering about stuff but not really saying anything.
Reminds me of George, Scott, & Steve from 3DR.
:(
It's the only thing about GoG I dislike.
Don't talk bad about the countdown, the clues and the sort of viral campaign. It brought attention to GOG and vitalised the community.
Brought me out of lurking. Though if that's bad or good is yet to be seen. ;)
GOG only release information like that when they are able to. Such as they know for certain that they can release a certain game soon. When they have informed people of upcoming games in the past and were then unable to release those games within the period stated, it's caused a few complaints.
So naturally, they no longer make such promises. So nowadays I expect they only show games as coming soon when they know (a) that it passes their internal testing and (b) the publisher has given permission for them to release it "soon" and (c) it really will be released soon.
But also remember that GOG like to surprise people while also ensuring that at least 1 new game is released every week (with very few exceptions when no games are released) =)

Yeah, that all makes sense.
But I still liked it more when they actually posted a Coming Soon for the games.
I never saw where they actually posted the coming soon with a date though.
I just saw the "coming soon" tab next to the "New to the store" tab on the main page.
Its not there anymore.
I dont like NOT having it.
As for viral marketing, I think it is crap.
I guess since they now have major distrubutor's, that they have to kowtow to them, just like everyone else.
But that doesnt mean that they should, or that people should like it just because everyone else is doing it.
jmo
Viral marketing is not bad as long as it don't go out of hand as with Cloverfield.
Like it or not it's very effective so it's here to stay. If GOG will use it again is another question.
Steam does the same thing, a lot of releases are not in the coming soon list. I do like to see what is coming up and I imagine GoG has quite a queue of games. But then again, surprises are nice too. I think it would be interesting just to see how many games are being prepared for release just out of curiosity.
The "Coming Soon" was removed at the end of the year when they finished releasing all the titles for the year. Since then, they have been working on preparing the Activision bonanza and have had no "coming soon" games to talk about. Now that we are in the "Month of Activision", the "coming soon" stuff will be returning, in a fashion, on the "Month of Activision" page. I'm sure once we get through all the Activision games they plan to release this month, we will see the return of the normal announcement/release pattern... at least until the next big publisher comes along at the end of March.

The one on the front page? I believe it's scripted to only be visible when there's at least one title in the coming soon list. That list has often been empty, so it's not a new phenomenon.

There was also occasional problems with comming soon with game release dragging on for months due to difficult compatibility problems so GOG became recultant to post games in coming soon category.
As it was mentioned here, the main reason is that we cannot put on "coming soon" titles which are not 200% ready to be released. And you don't know guys in such a crazy mode we work quite often on our releases;) Sometimes we get approval (or not;) hours before the planned release, and to the very last moment we keep something as an option B. I wonder if someday we will have so bad luck due to different reasons that there won't be nothing to release on certain day. Looking on number of weeks and just pure probality it has to happen some day. Especially that we expect that more of the biggest publishers will join GOG, and they usually work sooooo sloooowwww...;) (and have soooo weeeeird requests....)
Other reason is that sometimes we would like to make smaller or bigger surprise;)

Yeah, especially missing the lift is very frustrating. It happened to me too in a few occasions...
