Just loaded up Steam and IL-2 started updating to the tune of 886.3MB. That's a bit much for a patch and yet there are no patch notes? Anyone heard anything or is this just Steam being Steam?

Sounds like there was a patch

As for the large size: Probably because the devs didn't bother to package the patch specially for Steam, so it just has to replace the files, rather than modify them.

I new it was a patch just couldn't find any patch notes to explain the size. Thanks.

Good question. I guess we will have to wait and see.
If you play Il-2 regularly, then chances are you already have it since it was released more than a couple of months ago, just not on Steam. In the event that you already have it installed, apparently it doesn't affect anything. I have the Ultrapack 2.0 mod installed and everything still works fine. I was about to throw a fit when I saw Steam updating.

Then the question is why don't we have it yet? Game was released on GOG more than a couple months ago.

Perhaps GOG were not aware of the patch to update the download? Given the whole Activision and now Atari thing it's understandable if it slipped under their radar.
According to this post, you already do. Have you checked the game version?

Edit: This patch was released in October 2009 at the 1C website, by the way. I don't know why it's taken Steam so long to include it with their auto-update system.

Haha, no problem.
And I'm good, haha. Although...I do like Steam in some aspects but there are definitely some frustrations that arise from time to time.
