GOG has been in operation for over a year now. It's customers number at least 5000 (judging by the wishlist; I'd assume it's more than that if you count the people who aren't active in the community and especially the people who come here to buy Fallout), and there are over a hundred titles in its catalogue. Admittedly, this place doesn't look like it's going to become a multi-billion dollar corporation at any time in the near future, but I am curious as to why the GOG headers still say "beta."

Why are so many google products still in beta?

Because many of them are undeveloped and not always reliable?

Kinda like the down loader and Virtual Shelf 2.0, here? ;)

I think that ScummVM is still in beta as well (but they're finally preparing for the first "complete" version as we speak).
Perhaps GOG doesn't feel like everything is working well enough to consider it 'complete.' I'm not sure. However, I would rather them take their time and get it right, then rush, and have it stink to high heaven. But that's just me.
Gmail was in beta for 5 years.
Whatever the case, I hope GOG gets this site sorted soon. Navigating around this place is a bit of a pain. I have a very fast internet connection and yet, I sometimes have to wait up to 3 FRAKIN MINUTES for a page to load! Ridiculous.

that's an issue on your end, clear your cache/cookies, etc.
also, I think the navigation could be better.

Yep, it must be a problem in your end. The navigation is a bit clunky but not horrible.

When they opened their doors to us elite beat agents, we were told they intend to keep the site in beta to follow "web 2.0" faggo- I mean, standards. They said that if they do well they might knock it down to a year. I'm guessing at the start of the next financial quarter they will remove the beta sticker. Although like I said previously, I am thinking the navigation could be a little cleared up. The constant search box for games has come in handy, but I will see it and forget about the second search box for searching the forums. And that bothers me.
But I think the main reason why they're still in beta isn't because of any financial worry, but because they want a larger catalogue.

The issue must be on your end, then. I often use wireless 3G internet (in Australia!) and I never waited more than 30 seconds.
If GOG is in beta then we are the betatesters and when it comes out we get NEAT blue stars by our forum names and a cookie mailed to us by GOG staffers...

While the problem could very well be on my end, it certainly isn't my cookies/cache or junk files. The last thing I do before turning my system off every night is to clear them. I then have my Advanced System Care run a scan to clear out all the surfing traces, junk files and registry errors (my gf does the same every time she's done going online. We're both pretty AR about that).
Gametap is still in beta and I have absolutly no problems navigating around over there. Any ideas what else it could be?
