Growing up, I used to have a Windows 3.1 computer and I played Journeyman project games. I found this site recently and I cannot believe how many retro pc games available for download!

Question 1: On the game pages, Journeyman project 2 is compatible with xp,vista,7,8 and Journeyman project 3 is compatible with only xp,vista and 7. I do not understand why the latest journeyman game is not compatible with 8.

Question 2: Also, ive shamelessly downloaded a pc game and couldnt get it to run. Most retro games arent even compatible with vista and higher. How are these pc games provided by gog playable? Are they reconfigured to be compatible? Or, do they come with a special program to install with?

Specs: I have a Windows 8 64-bit (upgraded from 7) Sony laptop. I just want to make sure that if I start purchasing these games, I will be able to run them.

1. Windows 8 compatibilty was just added to the site, so they are still going through the games to update the list. But, as a rule of thumb, if a game runs in Windows 7, it will run in Windows 8 as well. I had a problem with Ultima 7 in Windows 8, but was easily solved by installing the game in a folder different from Program Files (x86).

2. I am sure someone will chime in with more computer knowledge than me, but yeah, GOG tweaks the game to make sure they run smoothly in newer systems. Sometimes they use DOSBOX to emulate them; others they just twek the config settings. But I am not very computer savvy and someone will explain it better than me. The bottom line is: GOG only sells games they think run reasonably well in modern systems.

Anyway, you have some free games in your account just by joining. You can try with those first.

Some games I find only work when you run them as Administrator (Divine Divinity and Worlds of Ultima are the main suspects)in Win 7. Once you remember that for anything that looks like it won't run, every thing I've bought off GOG has been perfect.

There will always be an issue with PC games from time to time. As long as you know that I would buy with impunity, in general they work great.
