There is no user.cfg file. I've checked where i've installed it to and every folder within that and it's not there. =( Still no luck

No similar file? Try taking a look in your documents folder for either a creatures folder or whatever the developer or publisher is called. There might be a config file there if there's not one in the main directory.

My reasoning is that you're only being asked to change the colour depth because it's trying to run windowed. That might be the whole crux of the problem here.

...did Creatures 2 even have a fullscreen mode? Do you remember it having one or are you just giving general purpose advice here?

Not by default, no. Hence the workaround. I checked the Creatures forum and it seems to be a valid means of avoiding colour depth issues.

Ah, cool!
I can't find the user.cfg file. Is it a hidden file?

It shouldn't be. No .cfg files at all relating to this game?
Nope, no cfg files at all relating to this game. =(

I still think that somehow forcing the game to fullscreen on startup would solve your problem. I'd ask in the Creatures forum if you haven't already. It's difficult to help you resolve this without actually having a copy myself.

I've asked and no one has replied. I just keep on getting an error message saying 'DERR_outofmemory'. No idea what that means. Thank you for trying to help though. I really appreciate it.

You can't expect an immediate response there unfortunately. But hopefully it will be a better informed response all the same. Good luck!

Did you install the game in the default location? Go to this folder:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\

Then open up the game's folder there and you should see its files. If you changed the installation location adjust the path appropriately.
