This is my very first thread on the forums and I hope you won't see it as spam.
It's a call to take part in a charity campaign that won't cost you anything other than a couple of minutes.

SoftMaker is running the "Load and Help 2012" charity campaign.
What it's about: Basically, you visit the above link and click on download. You'll be asked to provide a name and email where they'll send you a code and the download links for Windows and Linux.
The download links will also appear on the screen, but you don't have to actually use them.

SoftMaker will probably add you to their mailing list but you can unsubscribe anytime and they won't bother you again.

So far they've donated 1,964€ to help build a kindergarten in Tanzania - you can read about it here.

And no, I'm not affiliated to SoftMaker or Betterplace, just found out about it on Gizmo's Freeware Forum and thought it's a nice thing to take part in and share.

Hey, I don't know how they could possibly make themselves more awesome. Would you mind giving a short description of what the software does in your summary, or maybe even a Youtube link of a quick project someone has done in it? I think it might get more folks to go visit.

Quick project? It seems to be a multi-platform* office suite (consisting of application for word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation, as well as email/tasks/calendar/contact list in the paid edition for Windows), don't know how applicable a project on Youtube is to that kind of software.

* meaning: Windows, "Linux", Android, Windows Mobile (not Phone), and Windows CE.

Regardless, most of the Youtube videos I seem to find only contain links and information for pirating the thing. I did find a few legitimate videos in Portuguese (I think) though.

I figured at worst there'd be a tutorial video or two, most companies put a few out themselves even. At least now I know my guess about what it is is correct, how their front page managed to not communicate this to me (albeit with AdBlock and NoScript on) is beyond me.

Oh sorry for presuming that I didn't need to explain who SoftMaker and their product is.
FreeOffice is the lite version of their Office Suite, meaning it only comes with TextMaker (alternative to Word), PlanMaker (alternative to Excel) and Presentations (alternative to PowerPoint) - you can check out all its features following the above link.
This is always free, but downloading it via the Load and Help link till Christmas results in SoftMaker donating 0.10€/ download to charity.

SoftMaker also runs the freefont.de site where they offer free fonts every month.

They're a quite nice company doing a lot of charity.

I don't think they have a Youtube channel.

I had never heard of either the company or any of their products before, what I know now comes from clicking around their site.

I grabbed the free version of SoftMaker Office 2008 from them a couple of years ago, and I just grabbed this SoftMaker FreeOffice last week. Both for the Linux version. Pretty handy really to be used as backup to Apache OpenOffice.org and/or LibreOffice.

Sure it is, but it's spam for charity, so I'm not going to downrep it.
