Since geekyapar.com(a Turkish site) made a list of top 10 hack'n'slash games let's see yours!

http://geekyapar.com/konular/oyun/gelmis-gecmis-en-iyi-10-hack-n-slash-ryo/

By the way i want to see Fate in Gog.com.
I'm not really a Hack'n'Slash fan. But somehow I prefer the original Diablo (not even on the list) over Diablo 2.

Also I find the inclusion of Divine Divinity a little strange. While it may look and play (a little) like it, it lacks the typical "better equipment, level up" motivation loop but instead features a fully fledged story with sidequests etc.

I know what you mean but it's still kind of hard to draw the line. Sacred has a huge amount of side quests, too. Nox and Bastion are quite story-driven and AFAIK don't have random loot drops and that many different weapons. I'd go as far as to say that Divine Divinity is still somewhat closer to Diablo than Nox and Bastion, although it has more elements of a classic RPG.

Leroux: ...
I neither played Nox nor Bastion so I couldn't tell. I know that some people even count in combat heavy games like Icewind Dale.

For me the term "Hack'n'Slash" usually means some entirely different anyway - arcade games with melee weapons like Golden Axe or maybe even Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. In terms of RPGish games I prefer Rogue-like as a category.

I hate labels but yes, this is stupid. XD
I mean, it being on the list is stupid, not your post. OOOPS!

The Fate games (just got back into them), the Torchlight games, the Diablo games. As a stretch I would even throw the Stronghold games in there - I love them, but they're a lot of doing the same things over and over so I consider them "grind" in the same way I do hack'n'slash.

And maybe Bastion would actually fit this category better. IMO it has more in common with Castle Crashers than with Diablo.
For me nothing beats Diablo 2. But Titan Quest gets better and better for me. I strongly suggest that game. Especialy multpilayer. I have only played Torchlight 1 and it was a fun game.

I have finished Bastion and Divine Diviny. They are not hack and slash games.

Also Van Helsing seems promising.

I've never heard of Bastion; looking it up now.

Looks like Torchlight....kind of....but it is definitely not a hack & slash; I can see that just from the screen shots.

OKAY, so it's $14 on GG and $4 on Amazon. What am I missing here? :P

Maybe a "1"? ;)

It's been in a Humble Bundle, too. Still, $4 is a steal if you think it might be your cup of tea. I think it's a great game, just keep in mind that it's nothing like Torchlight and Diablo, that it's comparatively short (my completionist playthrough will probably end after 13-14 hours or so and I take my time; I hear others beat it in 6-8 hours), comparatively easy for experienced gamers (although at some point you get the option to make it more challenging), and that - in my experience - it plays best with a controller (but there are also two different default sets for playing with mouse and keyboard and you can customize the keys - it's just a little awkward to use WASD when you move diagonally all the time, but it works, too).

I suspect it'll be on a Humble Bundle for a penny in the next week. It's been super dirt cheap several times in the past.

I've played some Bastion and really enjoyed it. The extra little bit of neatness was that it had a narrator that talked while you played and made choices.

And for me: I loved Darkstone. Giant good dragon to kill and lots of neat spells.

I'm also one of those folks who thinks Diablo III is really fun, too. So be careful listening to me. :)
I don't know if I have enough to make a top ten but I'll toss out a couple (licensed) others that haven't been mentioned. I really enjoyed. Lord of the Rings War in the North and one that's here on GOG called Demon Stone.
Diablo would probably be my all time favorite though.
Sacred is my favourite and I've always had a dislike for Titan Quest (the game, not the setting). Divine Divinity and Nox is good but I never managed to complete them, the former because I think I got stuck (gameplay, not technical) and the latter refuses to work without instability. Bastion was fun but everything except the combat was outstanding, the combat got repetitive even with the customization possibilities. I played a lot of Diablo 2 about 10 years ago or so and I had a blast but now I'm not so sure I would have the patience even if its atmosphere is superb and story is quite interesting if you delve into it. Darkstone is a classic and I was pleasently surprised by LOTR War in the North.

I'm greatly looking forward to play Transistor especially because they added an optional element where you can pause the game and use your abilities in a more tactical approach, but according to Steam Discussions it seems to have some major technical issues so I'll wait until they are fixed.
