I got this a day or two ago and i keep getting
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
abnormal program termination
I have not even started the game as i just installed it. I have tried compatability settings and the troubleshooter and nothing works as that error keeps poping up no matter how i attempt to run it.
I am running a windows 10 machine and at this point i am out of options and wish there was some sort of fix for this.

If this is for Neverwinter Nights Diamond, try finding the Game's .exe and enabling Compatability mode for it. Then, open the game from the exe and not from galaxy. That's how I made it work for myself. See if that helps!
You can diagnose this problem by trying to run the game in compatibility mode..

First solution:

First, go the the games's directory( on where you installed to game)
2nd , right Click the exe.file( e.x. nvnmain.exe)
3rd, Choose properties, set compatibility to windows xp service pack 2, or win 7

2nd solution:

Windows 10 is currently using direct X- 10, 11 or 12...
however the NVN game series requires at least direct x 9.0 or above (but it requires DX 9 because the game has not been further patched into compatibility settings to play in Direct X above 9.0)
You can download the direct X 9.0 here - https://www.microsoft.com/en-ph/download/details.aspx?id=34429
The game should run with no problem...
(optional) nvn 1 needs to be patched into 1.69 which is the latest patch bioware has officially released and you can download it here..https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/other/patch/169-critical-rebuild-english

I hope this helps solving your problem I'm a win 10 user too.. perhaps if my solution work with your game then have fun gaming! Cheers to that!

is right.
I've heard you can also set your compatibility mode to XP SP 2/3 as well to get it going.

I get this error all the time, but the game always plays eventually. Once it starts I can play as long as I like.

It was originally a DX 8.1 game but HotU upped the requirements a bit and you'll notice a marked difference between it and the OC/SoU due to DX 9.
