There is quite a lot of guides on this forum and elsewhere on how to make the native client provided by Bioware work on modern linux systems. In this post I want to centralize what I learned trying to make the game work on my laptop running Archlinux. Maybe it woud be useful to others to make it a sticky ?
---------------------------------------

So, how do I play Neverwinter Nights on Linux?

Depending on your distribution, you have several options:

Ubuntu/Debian/Mint

I recomment using the scripts provided by the fine folks at dotslashplay.it: http://wiki.dotslashplay.it/en/games/neverwinter-nights

Archlinux

There is an AUR package that I just updated to make it work with the newest installer: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/nwn-gog/

You will need to provide the GOG installer files, of course.

What if I don't use Ubuntu or Arch?

I wrote a guide that aim to be as distribution-agnostic as possible. You can find it here: https://gist.github.com/ubervison/1fa64659975ab37c0afca0bedaf5ad2d

I used information from these websites:

https://linuxgamecast.com/2015/11/l-g-c-how-to-installing-neverwinter-nights-linux-native/
https://robotbutler.org/article/13

As well as the original and outdated AUR package.

You can also use the Lutris platform, which supports the GOG version of Neverwinter Nights.

Other posts and resources on GOG about the linux client:

Ganni1987 created a patch of the native client for linux systems: Modern patch for Neverwinter Nights native Linux version
vv221 on the dotslashplay.it scripts: Install Neverwinter Nights on Debian/Ubuntu/Mint/etc.

I was successful in trying to use this script and generating a DEB package for my Debian 8 64bit in the past (though the game was 32bits, it worked perfectly) ... while trying to use the same DEB package, now in Debian 9 64bit, the game install, but it does not work, it caused an error in the MPV player ... I came back to this site and re-made each step, compiling each new and updated file and to my surprise, again it worked. I wonder why GOG.com no longer produces the installation packages for this game for Linux, only for Windows ... could not you highlight at least one source for other users to use? Example: say that their support would temporarily be suspended but the interested user could follow this step by step to perform the installation?

Do we need the Linux client? I haven't played NWN on Linux in a few years, and even back then the Windows install using WINE worked better on Linux than it did on Windows (smoother gameplay, less bugs, etc).

Having never used the native Linux client, what are the benefits other than "not having to install/configure WINE"?

I was thinking the same question.

I dual-boot Win7 and Linux Mint. I had installed NWN1 on Win7 (GOG version). It had a few problems like movies were small, gameplay was sloppy at times. However, when I am using Linux Mint (18.3 with WINE 3.0) I can simply right-click on nwn.exe on that windows installation and run it through WINE. Which works perfectly, everything works fine without even needing to install on Linux.

So, when everything works like that without any problems, what might be the advantage of using other methods.
I don't seem to be able to download anything from nwdownloads.bioware.com. Any clues as to where else I may obtain the files originally hosted there?
You can find all kinds of help on neverwintervault org with links for linux clients etc. Just search for linux tutorials. I'm trying to attach a link but this forum is not letting me so you'll have to type out the url by hand from my attached image:

Hope this helps

Here is the link for you.
Thank you, Engerek. Salaams
I can't thank You enough, I'm still learning how to use the Terminal and this guide helped me a lot. Again, thank you, now I can re-roll my character and finally beat the game.

First of all, thanks for including the ./play.it method in your list of ways to install Neverwinter Nights on Linux ;)

I wanted you to know that ./play.it support for this game got extended to the Arch Linux family in addition to the Debian one. And there might be a couple other distributions on our TODO-list…
Thank you very much! I could get it to run on Arch using the AUR package and Ubuntu using the play.it script.
What was left was changing the keys on one machine so we could play on LAN.
It's unfortunate that GOG does not provide Linux packages even though the client is available.
I know probably the wrong place to ask since I don't own it through GOG but I have the Diamond copy on DVD. Back in the day I could install it on Linux but these instructions are for the GOG version, are there any for the physical version?
I actually tried all these methods in an old Platinum version installed from CDs. Apply the NWN 1.69 file and it won't matter if it isn't the GOG version. (Even the play CD is not needed after the patch is applied.) The game worked perfectly after all the headache of dealing with the issues of the missing libraries.

Hello Guys, I think the play.it script is also concerned by the Nvidia 32Bit issue:

$ ./neverwinter-nights
ERROR: ld.so: object 'nwmovies/nwmovies.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded (cannot open shared object file): ignored.
ERROR: ld.so: object 'nwmovies/nwmovies.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded (cannot open shared object file): ignored.
./nwmain: error while loading shared libraries: libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
