IAfter my marathon NWN 1 playthrough, I was really keen to get going on NWN2.

I'm having real problems controlling other party members, and just wanted to check if I am missing something? I can't see any option to give them a status (e.g. defensive, offensive etc), and they just seem to wander off and do their own thing, completely ruining any tactics or surprise!

I haven't played past the first 2 hours, because it is driving me nuts. Any thoughts?

I've increasingly taken to playing the game with puppet mode on.

Otherwise, keep the AI as dumb as possible. Short leash distances, no item usage, definitely no spellcasting usage, combat modes off. Take direct control of every decision that's more important than which goblin skull needs cleaving first.

And, of course, keeping the "attack nearest", "follow me", and "hold ground" emotes hotkeyed is standard advice for both NWN games.

Thanks, Darvin - how do I set those things - ie no item usage, no spellcasting and combat mode off - that's the bit I can't see in the options

There's a tab on their character screens that lets you modify their behavior. These settings must be changed on an individual basis for each companion, although you can just hit the "apply this setting to all" button for most of it.
Ahhh Got it - thanks a lot. I don't know how I missed it!

This questions should have been answered years ago. Necro'ing a thread is frowned upon, but just in case anyone else has the same question, I'll go ahead and answer it.

Pull up your character window (default "C") and look at the tabs on the top. One of them reads, "Behavior." That is what you are seeking.

[Edit: I have no idea how I missed the two posts previous to this one, but I somehow managed it. Disregard this one, please.]
