How do i get this game started? I keep getting runtime error

If you're trying to run Neverwinter Nights Diamond in Windows 7 or 8 (as opposed to Neverwinter Nights 2 -- this forum covers both), then you'll want to do the following:

1) Be sure you're not installed in a protected area (no C:\, C:\Program Files\, C:\Windows\...\ areas).

2) Don't run the program from the main screen where you click "Play" "Toolset" "DM Client," etc.

3) Instead, find the directory where you installed the game. There should be a file called "NWN.exe." Right click it, go to properties, and set compatibility mode to Windows XP Service Pack 3 and set it as Run as Administrator.

4) Now run NWN.exe (or make a shortcut of it and stick it in a place where you have easy access to it) and your game should come up.

5) If it doesn't, you may need to install Direct X 9.0c. Especially if you don't play many old games. You can get it here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109


EDIT: This is from memory and I haven't done it in a year or two. I'm pretty sure the file you need is NWN.exe, but it might be something like NWNmain.exe or even game.exe or something similar.
