I am getting ready to start my preparation of a golden save/enjoy the witcher 2 again before the sequel comes out, and I was wondering if the save format between the winodws and linux versions are the same. I do most of my work in linux (mint) these days, so not having to boot over to windows would be nice. But, at the same time, I'll be surprised if The Witcher 3 runs halfway decent under Windows for the first few months (let alone linux), so need to keep my options open come May.

So, in a nutshell: If I start a game in Windows, can I load that save (after I copy it around) in Linux, and vice versa?

I haven't tried it, but I'd say yes, there's a good chance it'll work. The Witcher 2 wasn't natively ported to Linux but consists of the Windows version using wrapper libraries to make it run under Linux. If you're lucky they haven't touched the savegame format at all. To be on the safe side, just give it a try and install the game on both machines and exchange a test savegame.
