I apologize for this elementary question, but this is the first new/large game I have purchased @ GOG. I've downloaded all 5 files, but they are not .exe files, they are .bin files. Do I have to burn them to CD-R like .iso files before they will act as executables? If so, I'll do it, but that sucks and definitely doesn't make me want to continue to buy digital copy of large games. I just want to install, not create shit. Thank you for any help you can provide!

You don't have the whole game yet. That is just the preload. It's just data files. You can't do anything with them except put them someplace safe until the 17th.

When the completer comes out on the 17th, that will be the executable.
Awesome! That makes more sense and makes me feel better, I had no idea what a "preload" was, or what I was being allowed to download, considering the game has not yet been released. Is the purpose of the "preload" so you can download the bulk of the game now, prior to the unlock or whatever? Thank you for clarifying!

kittiefae:
Yeah, the purpose of the preload is so they don't have everybody and his brothers banging on their servers for 9.7GB downloads on release day.

The Witcher 1 download should be an example of how this works. It too has five large .bin files and a small .exe file, and you run the .exe file to install.

Apart from the confusion because nobody explained this too well, the preload seems to be going pretty smooth.
