So just wondering if anyone else got this at all. During the game I could be playing away happily when the screen will go black for a few second. Sometimes up to 5/10 seconds. I can still hear the sound effects. Then the game will pop back up as if nothing was wrong. There is no pattern it could by a few times in a hour or a few times across a few minutes.

Anyone got any ideas?

I am running the game on a Geforce 8800gts. It seems to run fine at mid to high detail. The autodetect tells me I could run it on high. Using drivers 8.17.0012.6658
I posted for a similar issue. It seems longer than 5-10 seconds though. At least, it hasn't come back on for me; maybe i'm just impatient.
Kirin, i have something similar happening - game will "freeze" for about 5 seconds, the audio sounds fine (does not cycle or skip) then the screen will go black for 5 seconds. after that the video comes back on and i can continue playing. As with you, very random.
Lets see if someone has a solution.

No idea what that could be, lets see if someone has a solution. maybe my vid drivers are outdated...
Intel quad core cpu (2.83ghz),
ATI 4870 1GB

Typically this is a video driver crashing and trying to re-initialize, sometimes this is due to aggressive video setting generating more heat on the GPU than it can handle and maintain stability. Turning your video card settings down or disabling any Anisotropic Filtering can reduce the temperature rates and cause better stability.
I changed my texture downscaling to low and my texture memory size to large. Wandered the forests and the game felt smoother and had no black screen as yet. Haven't tried towns were it happens most. I also felt after doing this that my slow moving mouse in the interface moved faster and more smoothly.

See how it goes. post back later
So after about 2 hours of play having made the above changes to my config I can report I haven't encountered the black screen at all as far as I can remember.

The Catalyst drivers have a setting for VPU Recovery that resets the graphics driver when it stops responding to the display driver. It does a reset without the need for a reboot. I do not know if a similar feature is included in the nVidia driver.
i've got similar issue with hd4850 and 11.5b hotfix, reinstalled the driver to original 11.5 but problem still occurs.

What's weird i didn't have such issue prior to 11.5b hotfix installation oO

Me too. No problems til latest update. Screen goes black, seemingly random but might be more often with dialogue. I'm using PS4 controller, and black screen goes away when i hit the space bar, then it is like nothing happened.

I do not recall it ever happening during combat.
