Completed that part. ran accross the bridge. Dragon gets hit and flies away.
Then back in the cell where you are telling your story.
No option to continue? Just going back to the beginning.
Well, the options you can say to Roche (the guy with blue hat opposite Geralt) are in chronological order so if you started from the end, it might be a little bit confusing if you didn't play Witcher 2 before. I hope this is what you're asking for.
And yes, the dragon part is standalone it terms of the 'story', it's more like getting you know that some dragon is here, it might start making sense later in the game :-)

Okay, but after you finish every part you have an option to continue the story. After doing trial by fire he says something like "that ploughing dragon almost ruined everything!"
And asks you to continue.
In the righthand side options you now only have "that morning" and nothing else.
Where before you had ones below that as well.
So Im stuck there.
Yep, you most likely started from the end since 'That morning' option is the very first one, it describes events that happened before all other options you had. If you go through some option (let's say the dragon), it disappears from the list. If you want to revisit some options, you have to restart.
+You must go through all the options if you want to progress in the story.

Ha weird that it gives you the option to complete the next part of the story before doing the first part. And it doesnt matter at all until this point.
So you can just complete this part and then it skips ahead again?
What an odd set-up lol
1. Yes, it's weird design, I'm not sure what were the Devs trying to achieve by doing this if you must go through all the options anyway.
2. Yes, complete this part and you should be alright.
EDIT: Once you complete 'This morning' option, the story skips ahead to point where you were struggling with the QTE wheel, next segment is set right after this event.

Ha thanks.
I'll give it a go.
Although I'd swear I already completed it.

Thanks for your help :)

Okay...even if you completed that already? Playing it on easy anyway since getting used to the controls ( which suck after playing Witcher 1 tbh) so it's not too hard getting through it.

It's not like you're magically teleported next to the damn wheel. I rather meant that next part follows on it, you opened the gates for Foltest, something happens :-)
Well, the controls might be a little bit harsch from start but I play through this several times and the controls are great IMO, on mouse+kb at least. It's a nice change tbh, in Witcher 1 you were pretty much invincible on higher levels if you didn't mess up the timing, here you can die very easily even if you have the best gear.

Okay I don't understand? Is the morning bit the whole sequence before the wheel? since I did that too? And the end of that is?

Ill just have to try it I guess hahah.
Im not for games that have you dying over and over, like the quest bits best where you are just roaming about and killing only every so often. Not like at the end of Witcher1 where you just have fight -cut scene -fight- cut scene - fight fight fight .
So boring. I like story ...not fighting really. Which is why I loved Witcher 1.
And Geralt's sarcasm...not many cut scenes so far has a lot of humour and Geralt telling people off.
he just does whatever Foltest wants and doesn't have any commentary on anything. Which is rather dissapointing.
I hope that comes back later on.
Im also reading the books and so far the first game reminds much stronger of that.

But maybe it changes later I dunno. So far the game is quite boring because it's not very special. Just hack and slash and thats it. So many other games are the same
Alright, the sequences goes like this:
Morning -> The assault, balista -> Dragon -> Monastery, opening the gate
You can do them in any order you want and after you complete all the sequences, you are able to progress in the story which is set right after the 'Monastery, opening the gate' part.
I'm sorry if I confuse you a little bit, english is not my native language and sometimes I lack the proper words :-)

Yep, I can understand that, I also love heavy story-driven games, which The Witcher certainly is. And if the game is challenging, even better. At least for me.

About the sarcasm and prologue, yes it how it is. Prologue is here to teach you some gameplay mechanics (I look at you QTE!) and set the story, nothing more, nothing less. The game opens itself after you leave this area and Geralt and not only him will be more like you remember him from the first Witcher.

About the books, yes, Witcher 1 is much more closer to the books than the second one I'd say. A little advice: If you have plans to read all of them (including the fan translations), try play the games again after you finish the last book, you might discover some small details and hints from them you missed on your first playthrough :-)

About the combat and hack and slash, I agree to with you to a certain degree, the problem probably is that you're playing on Easy and you can do a lot of things that would kill you on Hard. For example shieldbarers, you can pretty much kill them by just spamming light/strong attacks, on hard you must get behind them because they will bounce every attack from the front side.
Try mixing light/heavy attacks, using signs, especially Aard and Igni.

Ha it actually did skip straight ahead to blood of my blood after doing the morning and following the king like a pet bit.

Only other annoyance is with the fist fighting lol.

Now off to kill a Kayran I guess. He does get a bit funnier later on so thats good. Always good to see Dandelion again with his BS too hahah.

Just Igni and hard attack on easy wins all fights so far. Up until a later point I suppose.

With all the short-cuts for signs and no way to just pause and choose like in W1 it's good that at this point it's not too difficult. Dying a few times if fine, but don't want to be stuck somewhere and do the same bit 10x including all the blah blah.

I was happy when Geralt sees the notice board...some good ol Witcher jobs ! :)

I usually won most hings in last game by just using Aard and finishing them off straight after. Sadly you can't do group attack anymore :(
Had that maxed out on silver and steel sword.
