Just as one example:

I'm in Act 1 and currently using a Robust Cutlass as my Steel sword. It is a Common sword yet - and this is my point - it has better Stats than the Magicall Cutlass I just now picked-up while doing the Troll Trouble quest.

Plus, it is worth more and also has an Enhancement slot where the Cutlass has none.

Many other examples I'm sure most of you are aware of, just wanted to bring it to CDP's attention. :)

Cheers,
Wolfy
Its pointless
Not only weapons, best items in game are mostly magical|common (steel sword is magical - Caerme, best sword is epic, but it's available only on Roche's path, gloves are common, boots are magical, pants are common)
And some crappy boots you can get from almost any guard are epic =/

I've got caerme and i'm Iorveth...just fyi.
How about the "EPIC" tags on mutagens? I found hundreds of them and that didnt really make them feel so epic.

I know, i was talking about Vran Sword. You can take it from Dethmold's corpse as far as i remember, and it's the only EPIC steel sword in game. Caerme is available on both paths, I know.

Except for Madness Mutagen. I've only found it during my 1st playthrough on Insane, never found it in my first 3 Hard runs. And I've seen it only 3 times. And even though it doesn't have strong version it has stats, that are far better than any other mutagen.

I found the madness one on Hard on my first play through in Chapter 1
i found all 3 in 1st chapter too, but never seen madness again.
It's just a rarity tag. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it goes like this from most common to rarest:

Common, Magical, Rare, Epic

Common, Magical, Rare, Epic
Some of the most common items are marked Epic, some of the most rare and epic items are marked Common/Magical
Maybe the rarity is only in regards to the weapon's tier. It's possible that its easier to find a rare lower tier weapon than a common higher tier weapon.
Ratings are per chapter specific...

Basically epic item (mutangen) found in chapter 1 is epic for the difficulty/level range of the said chapter, afterwards it becomes not so epic, however the rating on the items you posses does not change as the chapters/story progress.

Just like Blue Stripes armour, it starts as epic because it trully is epic for prologue and chapter one, but as you progress through the game and find better equipment in later chapters (chapter 2 or 3) it no longer is that good... yet it remains tagged as epic.

Hope this helps :)

then explain, why Caerme is magical sword? Even though it's the best steel sword (except for Vran Sword which can be found on Roche's path). Why Elder Blood boots are common, and temerian officer boots are epic? Why Elven Gloves are epic and Elder blood gloves (which is just better version of elven) are common? You point is wrong.

Generally if you are going to call someone else' point wrong it helps to provide a different point of view or a counter point, otherwise you are just trolling.

I do not have the stats for all the items in question before me, it is quite possible that certain abilities on them make them what they are. It is quite easy to make a sword that is designed to increase bleeding, but you do require magic to actually increase an amount of magic damage or adrenaline gain from the use of it.

As far as the rest is concerned I am still waiting to hear something as substantial as the above statement from you to counter the "you are wrong because" statement of yours. This is a forum, it invite dialog, you would do well to read up on the definition of the two...

As I said - sometimes items marked Epic are worse in every single stat than common item, and both items can be aquired alomost at the same level. Example - Elven Gloves and Elder Blood Gloves - both come from 3rd chapter (may be i'm wrong, don't remember where are elven gloves, but i remember that I replace them in about 1 hour after I find them), both have the same stats, but stats on Elder Blood is much higher. And Elven is Epic, when Elder blood is common. If I understand your point right - then Elven must be rare and Elder blood must be Epic.
