I can't launch the game, or do anything in the launcher at all. Windows says some DX9 .dll files are missing. I thought DX11 was backwards compatible to DX9? What am I doing wrong, I'm feeling pretty stupid right now :/

You have to install Directx 9.
DX9 isn't included in the install of windows vista/7/8, so if you haven't been playing dx9 games yet, you haven't got it installed..

Just download the runtime from the Microsoft site and install that. Then you're set to go.
