I got now twice a crash all of sudden and would like to know, why this is happening. I play normal through the game for the first time and suddenly I'm back on the desktop (and I'm seeing the GOG launcher).

Is there something I can do about it?

I have the same problem with Witcher 2.
It seems that this problem exists for a few years now and isnt solved yet.
The first 2 or 3 hours have been totally crashfree, but by entering the first city, where you stop the execution of two people, nearly every act like buying, talking or whatever ends in crashing to the desktop.
Maybe anyone has got a solution here...

Never had any crashes but have you tried reducing the setting for the texture memory? Some games like to crash when they want too much of that.

No I haven't done this yet. Meh, The Witcher 2 looks really good, hopefully I haven't to lower the settings so much.
Try looking on the support areas on steam, if not try the steam community page for it, you may find someone with similar experiences

I noticed how the two people who said they were having crashes are German so I thought it might be to do with German language settings in the game. I googled it and apparently the umlauts cause these crashes. German players said they changed the language to English and the crashing stopped.

If you read through this thread a bit you'll see a fix if you don't want to change the text to English.

Added quote to the two users with the problem.

Export has found the answer, it seems, only he didn't reply to you so you probably won't notice.

So, based on the thing he found, here's the fix.

Oh yeah, that didn't occur to me. Thanks.
I heard it yesterday that there are problems with umlauts (äöüß). Downloaded a mod, which should fix the problem.

Thanks for help.
This bug is sooo old and it's unbelievable that GOG didn't patch it yet. It only belongs to the german version of the EE edition. The best solution IMO is, to change the ingame text- language to english via the launcher. It solves all crashes related to this bug. The voices remain german. There is a community fix that works somehow but it didn't solve all of the crashes.

GOG-team: Please correct your game for german players. I own every part of the witcher and all games are great and The witcher is CD Projekt and CD Projekt is GOG and there are many german users here on GOG so it's your obligation to make the german version of this game playable for german players !!!

I also can't understand why this bug isn't listed in the list of common bugs and why the workaround is not even mentioned. There are many negative reviews about this game on german websites just because of this mess.

Thank you very much. I did not find anything that explained the connection between the german language and the crashes. Unfortunately i finished the game a few days ago.
But next time i play it i will change the language to english.

Thank you very much guys.
