Hello all,

I currently have both Witcher games, which were purchased on disks. Witcher 1 is not currently on this computer. The last save from Witcher 2 was in December 2011. I have thought about playing through the old games as a prep for the arrival of the new game.

In both previous games, it seemed as if the game ran worse with each released patch. It got so bad in Witcher 2 that I was forced to download a patch to remove the DRM, which made the game at least playable, but it still did not run as good as the original, unpatched game.

Today, I noticed that GoG now has both games for an incredibly low price on sale today for the next 15 hours. I'm seriously thinking about buying the download versions while they are on sale, and using them as my warm-up for the new game.

So, the question is: Has GoG actually stripped the horrible DRM from the games, are they more playable now, than the previous disk versions, and has GoG improved anything over the original disk versions?

Thanks

Also, does the game behave better now if you have many save games in your saves folder? I am a habitual saver, and previously, I had to move many saves from the saves folder, before starting a new session, as the game would choke if the saves folder contained more than about 10 saves at a time.

No need to buy again, you should be able to redeem a free digital backup from here if I'm not mistaken. http://www.gog.com/witcher/backup

As for performance, my pc barely meets the minimum reqs and TW2 runs decently on low settings. No significant slowdown due to save files (well, maybe the main menu was a bit slower after 50+ saves, but I could live with that) and DRM should have been patched out long ago.

Thanks for the link!

Unfortunately, I can't find my disk for Witcher 1. Maybe it will show up soon. I was able to successfully redeem my license for Witcher 2, after having problems with the letter O and a Zero. Witcher 1 is not so important. If I can't find the original disk, I'll just buy it from GoG.

So, is the redeemed backup copy exactly the same as what I would get if I purchased the game from scratch on GoG?

And, Wow, what a huge download! I thought that something was wrong, until I looked at the actual size of my Witcher 2 folder on the computer.

I actually built my current computer right before Witcher 2 came out, specifically so that I could play the game well. I'll probably end up building a new computer just in advance of Witcher 3.

Yes.

Yeah, it's huge... I think it's partially because it contains all the different languages. Which is cool, because you can pick any language you want and any subtitles you want (I prefer Polish voices and English subtitles, but you can do any combination).

You might want to look into this application - it's handy for removing old save files en masse, especially if you're heavy with F5 the way I am.
Thanks for the replies and the links, everybody! I'm about to uninstall the 3 year old version of Witcher 2 that is on my computer, install the new downloaded version, and begin to kick ass as Geralt!
Welcome back
