I've got an idea for future DLC, expansion, Enhanced Edition or whatever. It's intended to add more depth to alchemy/potions, and fill the gap that was left by the secondary substances that didn't get carried over from the first Witcher.

The interface that is used in The Witcher 2 for drinking potions is based on drinking multiple potions at the same time - you select three or four bottles, then gulp them down in one go. So wouldn't it be nice to have some "supplemental potions", potions that have no effect by themselves, but influence how other potions you drink at the same time affect you?

For example, there could be a potions that helps your body to deal with the poisonous effects of other potions, reducing the total toxicity you take. Or one that increases the positive effect of other potions at the expense of additional toxicity. I'd especially like one that makes other potions last longer.
/signed.

great idea!. it plays on the strengths of the current system and makes it more interesting.
Nice idea indeed Kibou , thanks for sharing , i hope the devs will read you :)

the system of TW1 was best though , i'd love to drink Swallow albedo dominated in TW2 , but if your idea gets implemented , it would be cool too :)

Good idea, I'd like to see this implemented. Maybe it could be modded in ?
This is a very good idea, it would make alchemy a little more complex and that's exactly one of the things that would suit this game the most.

Nice idea, though of course in your example toxicity actually has to matter (it currently is meaningless). But more interaction between potions would be great, and 'secondary' potions sound like a good way to do that.
Like secondary effects from TW1, right? .....Gone.

Pretty good idea, potions that changes other potions' effect on Geralt. It would be nice too if Geralt's toxicity remains (like in TW1) but decrease with time as the potions expire.
Well, personally, I don't bother with potions just 'cos sitting down and drinking 'em takes too much time.

However, this is an awesome idea.
Thanks for all the positive response! :)

A little problem I shouldn't miss to mention would be balancing in regard to the alchemy tree, since it has skills with similar effect: "specialization: potions", that enhances potion duration, and "Catalysis", that enhances positive and dimished negative potion effects. Supplemental potions should neither entirely replace this skills and make them redundant, nor should they, when used in combination, make Geralt over-the-top powerful.
Guess a skill that would go well with supplemental potions is "Taster", that allows drinking of a fourth potion, since they'd allow for more interesting combinations.

yeah sounds like an awesome idea, would be great to see :)
I would like that they scrap the idea of meditation for using potions or make the animation for drinking potions and meditation faster.

It's so freaking long each time you need to bear with the animation of Geralt drinking the potions, sigh and escape the screen.
I think they got rid of the 2ndary effects for a reason. you are asking them to go back on a design choice.

Would like this as well. Playing as potion-chugging build you can really feel the (unnecessary) lengthiness of the potion-drinking process.

You were suggesting a supplemental potion to increase potion length, yet there is already a skill that does that which you mentioned. Isn't that a bit contradictory?

Or perhaps the fastest way for CDPR for fix drinking potions inconveniences is to allow skipping (Right click) the drinking potion animation. Those who wanted to see it still allow to do so.

Win-Win situation.
