sune-ku: I've beaten him on steroids (without taking any myself) it's ridiculously difficult and took me something like 40 attempts. I can safely say, unless you simply want the satisfaction of achieving it, it's not really worth doing! There's no additional bonus and in fact the game doesn't even acknowledge you did it - you even get the same journal message (which implies I stopped him using steroids).

soldiergeralt: interesting. i guess you're not supposed to beat him without steroids.
Apparently so, I sent a lighthearted email GoG's way thanking them for an awesome game, but suggesting I got a bonus for managing that feat... their reply?

"As for Numa, in such cases as yours there is some kind of extra added in the game. In exact 34 hours and 22 minutes, your PC should evolve into small dragon robot, eat your hamster and then explode. However this function might not work properly if you weren't a legal owner of a registered hamster in a day of game purchase.

Huge respect for such hardcore."

Got to love 'em!
lol thank god I didn't keep trying to beat him with steroids. It really is ridiculously hard.

masterring: Its not 30 Orens you get .

You bet 30 Orens but you get double each time.

The most important thing its ultimate xp in Act 1. Big Max is easy to beat, and Bartholomew is not that easy.

Beating Big Max - 60 Orens and 10 xp

Beating Bartholomew Barge - 200 orens aand 20 xp
avatar
jlibster: You are absolutely correct. I should have said 60 Orens each time. And yes, I also gained a level while getting money at the same time. The extra talent came in handy in the final scene of act 1. :D. I 've barely gotten to act 2.
avatar
Cadenza: You don't even need that many Orens in Act 1 and yeah 30 orens is extremely small. I farmed like 5k from Adam Pangratt in Act 2 in like 20 minutes.
avatar
jlibster: didn't get there yet and I wanted to get as many diagrams as I could buy before the next act...just in case. I could not find a diagram for Robust Cloth anywhere (*sob*) but I could get diagrams for just about everything else that doesn't grow organically..
.
That doesn't make sense
Isn't half of what you get the money you anted up? For example, you get 200 orens because you put 100 on the match and Bartholomew put 100 on the match. That's why you get 200 orens, but your actual money should only increase by 100.

[edit] the post buggered up...]

The game only takes or gives orens to your inventory after the match, so if you beat Bargee, you increase your orens by 200.

So it is bugged, then. That would mean you are always getting paid 2 to 1. Does it take 200 form you when you lose?

I really have not noticed this. I just do the quests for the XP, not for the money.
If the object of the topic is to exploit the game, might as well crank open cheat engine. xD

Only because that's a very lengthy process just to test your patience and will to gain orens.
