So I just finished Witcher 1 and liked it a lot. I tried Witcher 3 a bit, and the controls feel really great to me. I can't wait to play it...but I want to play Witcher 2 first for the story context. I have played about two hours of Witcher 2 so far, and I hate the controls, especially the combat. (I am aware that many people would disagree.) Even the easiest enemy requires time and attention and yet you are ultimately doing the same moves over and over. Maybe it's because by the end of Witcher 1, I was instantly tearing holes through anything and everything (and swigging potions left and right), but the the combat is not fun for me, and of course there is a lot of it.

I am hoping someone knows of a mod that would significantly reduce or eliminate the combat. I have found mods that rebalance the skill trees and ones that make combat harder, but I haven't found any that get rid of it or make it much quicker. Does anyone know of one? I just want to see what happens in Witcher 2...quickly...so I can play Witcher 3 as the heroic sendoff it's supposed to be!!

Hmh. For players like you "easy" is the best (and only) choice. Attack the first opponent, shut your eyes and keep leftclicking. If you hear no cry of death for longer than 3 seconds then open your eyes, attack the next opponent, shut your eyes again ... till the end of the game:

The hardest fight against Letho looks like this one:

If this is too hard for you then go to youtube; you will find a good summary soon.

You can look for a god-mode-mod. Even if the fights aren't shorter you can't die. So god-mode and easy difficult setting is the way to go.
Uf, easy mode is so boring, too. Well, thanks for the suggestions, guys. I think what the game really needed is a reworked control scheme and UI, and that's probably not possible at mod level, so it makes sense there isn't one.
I hope that at least you will like the story. ;)

Yes, sure. But this ...

... is boring on the highest level. Can you reasonably exclude that you learn something new?
I couldn't stand the combat to begin with either (postponed playing the game for probably 2 years due to it), but once I settled for the utter (absurd) need to roll around a great, great deal, it become more fun. Some boss fights are unfortunately still utter BS, but most of the combat in the game becomes bearable once you get more used to it. I agree the system in TW1 was better. More in line with what an actual witcher would do, more realistic if you will.

There is lots of story to delve into, however, so hopefully you can manage with the combat and still enjoy the game.

Unfortunately the UI is a nightmare compared with TW1, clearly made with consoles in mind, but it is what it is, and overall the game is worth playing through. I'd recommend some minor mods to reduce the weight of most items, however, as you'll come across piles of items and monster parts, and having to leave the majority behind is not a great feeling if you are like most RPG players :D
