i hope they release some fullblown expansions to the witcher 2, they've created such an awesome engine with great combat, it seems to have a lot of untapped potential.
ive tried the various different paths in the game, but overall i really feel like it ended too soon, cut off just when it was getting good.
for example, you always feel a sense of accomplishment when you craft the best weapon/armor possible. but in chapter 3, after finally crafting the best silver sword in the game (dont remember the name starts with a Z) you only get to kill like 2 monsters with it.
itll be a shame if there isnt a whole plethora of content added beyond what we have now.

meanwhile, ive tried playing the witcher 1 but just cant get into it. mostly because of the awful combat. i keep planning to give it another chance, but i never get around to it, i dont feel compelled to play it like with the sequel.

is witcher 1 worth sticking with?

I would instantly buy any expansion that continues or expands the story. Can't get enough of Witcher 2 :) Yes! Combat takes a bit getting used to, but the game is great once you get the hang of if. Just don't hammer the mouse button like crazy (Witcher 2 style). You need to have a certain rhythm to get the strong combos.

Yep, agreed. TW1 is a beautiful game, just accept the fact it's a very different game, combat-wise. It has a lot to offer and, IMO, it's one of the best RPGs ever made.

TW1 is a very good game, it has more content (quests) than TW2. Some fun stuff like drinking game (you actually get drunk for real, with the staggering and all, not just a superficial overlay like TW2), a more complex alchemy system, and arguably more memorable NPC interactions. The beginning is pretty slow, but it picks up later on.

Yeah, about the combat. I find issue with positioning of Geralt (as in, after clicking LMB, you sort of dance around before attacking) but otherwise it's alright. Some people liked the timed-click format better and absolutely loathed TW2's fast-paced action. Me, I don't mind TW1 combat but I liked TW2 combat by a fair bit. Despite that, TW1 is very enjoyable.

Definitely. TW1 is a perfect RPG for the pc, TW2 is a perfect action-RPG for the 360.
In TW1 you can switch between over-the-shoulder and isometric view, but the former one is optimized for exploration, the latter one is meant for combat.

I played W1 just before the launch of W2, hey GOG were selling it for £5, best £5 I ever spent. However after playing W2 I just can't bring myself to relpay W1, it just doesn't have to same pull as W2 for me. But I glad I did play W1 before W2 so ther you go.

Absolutely worth it.

It's the introduction to Geralts entrance into the RPG gaming world. Is the combat system different? Yes. Is the game mechanics different? Yes. Is the game engine different? Yes.

Are both games a must have? YES!
