I've bought Witcher 2 in pre-order, bah, CE even.

Some other studios, like for example Electronic Arts' puppies and kids, give players the possibility of downloading the game previously registered, just in case of DVD damage ekcetra.

Well well, I said to myself, why wouldn't CDPR do the same? It's extremally handy to have a digital copy of such a great game, always able to be downloaded when I wanna. I had this kind of problem with Heroes IV, CD has gone "ping!" and woops, no moar playing.

So, my petition/question/rant, may I have The Witcher 2 assigned to the gog.com account? It would be incredibly awesome and I would be grateful.

Sincerely,

me myself

I doubt this will happen since there's really no reliable way of verifying that you own the game.

Besides, those who purchase the digital versions would be getting the short end of the stick if those with retail were suddenly able to have the best of both worlds. If you could get both, shouldn't I and others who bought digital be given a physical version in case of hard drive failure? That goes both ways.

Seriously. It would be chaos. This forum would turn to cannibalism.
Hard drive failure good sir? You can download your game again and again. Retailers do not have such luxury, bah humbug!

I registred my copy so yes, there is a reliable way to prove and verify it.

But what if I washed up on a desert island?

... Okay, yeah. Probably not, but you can copy game discs and make backups that way.

In fact, you can use something like MagicISO or MagicDisc (free) or Daemon Tools to make a virtual image of your CD, store it on your computer/external hard drive, and install it that way. It's basically the same as having a digital version, only without the option to redownload it whenever you want.

All things considered, I'd more object to you getting the GOG goodies than the download itself, but I can't help but think there would be a perceived unfairness to the whole thing that would reflect badly on CDPR.

EDIT FOR BETTER ARGUMENT: Some people have download caps and can't redownload a 9 gig file. Others may find themselves without internet. There are perks and cons to both physical and digital, and removing the cons for only one format could be seen as unfair. I suppose that's the crux of my argument.

But those who own the CE already have GoG goodies (and more). Well, except for the four bonus tracks.

I see where both of you are coming from, though. Maybe if you could purchase digital download rights for a small fee (say, $10) along with the physical game or something like that.

The more I think about it, the more I realize I don't personally have a problem with it.

Just got caught up in the moment while trying to explain why it's unlikely :)
As you say there are pro's and cons for both. For me GOG and Steam give the ability that if my pc crashes and burns I can still reinstall the games on new pc. Physical disk gives me the advantage that I buy the game, install it, play it, uninstall it and then I can sell it.

Yeah, i don't think so.

If that was an option from the start so that everybody was aware of that option, ok, but introducing that now would be a slap in the face of everybody who also wanted the CE but in the end decided against it and bought The Witcher 2 on gog.com to support CDPR to a greater extent. Not to mention that gog.com would stand to gain nothing from it.

Seems to me the choices were pretty clear from the get go - gog.com version, digital, convenience and ease of use, more money directly going to CDPR *OR* CE with all the physycal goodies. It seems to me that you made your choice and now after the fact you want it all. Well, nothing wrong with that, you can always do what the other folks who also wanted it all did, go ahead and purchase a second copy of The Witcher 2 from gog.com - problem solved.

+1
You nailed it.
agreed
1C made available to use Witcher's 2 retail game-code be assigned in Steam, 1 month later, after release.

I don't see why CDPR wouldn't do the same for rest retail games version as well on GoG.

Tthe point may be in Publisher. But I doubt that in Poland it was released by Namco and not CDP itself. So they can do it at least for Poland's fans.
