Hello everyone, my computer has these specs:
i7 4710MQ
nVidia GeForce GTX 980M
8 GB RAM
When I first installed this game, a month or so ago, I could use Ultra settings (with Ubersampling, Motion blur and Bloom disabled) and get 45-60 fps on 1080p, now, this evening I fire up The Witcher 2 and couldn't even get past 30 fps on the same settings (note: I haven't touched the game since the first install, since I was busy playing Fallout New Vegas).
I uninstalled and reinstalled the graphics drivers (for both integrated and discreet video card) and could solve nothing, I tried to force using the 980M, nothing, same performances.
When I first installed it, when the configurator set on its own the settings on Ultra, now when I use auto detect I get the lowest settings. And I have no idea why.
Recently, about 2 weeks ago, I've got a similar issue with the above mentioned Fallout New Vegas, where I should have got easy 60 fps on Ultra, I couldn't get more than 30 fps. This issue was partially solved by using a .dll to force DX9. I thought that this kind of issue was topical of Fallout since it's not really news that it had lots of Performance issues, but now it's happened to The Witcher 2 too. I really have no idea about what's going on, since it's like Optimus is not working properly as before: and everything without me touching anything! Just out of the blue!
As said before I tried:
-reinstalling graphics drivers (i updated to the latest, still could try downgrade to 344.xx)
-forcing the use of discreet video card from the nvidia control panel
without success and i don't know what I should try now. Any help?
EDIT: I found out by real time monitoring through HWinfo that the GPU load isn't alway at its max, usually about 30%, with a framerate below 30 fps, then, sometimes, the GPU load increase to 80% at max, and the framerate goes up to 50-60, just like it should be. What is the problem? How can I enforce the use of a greater load of the GTX 980M?
EDIT2: Ok, i feel a bit stupid: I haven't checked the only thing that should have mattered. The power consuming governor was set to Battery Saving even while DC powered. Guys, please, remember to check the power saving settings in your laptop before posting a similar problem in a public forum.
