jlibster: Many people made a similar statement about the rate of Global Warming..Enjoying the reduced winters and increased Rain, Tornados, floods yet (and possibly earthquakes triggered by increased water mass and currents)? There's more to come. Many reports are saying that global warming is progressing MUCH faster than anyone anticipated and those artic icecaps are fading fast.. BBC also indicated that above any other country in the world the USA is in certifiable levels of Global Warming denial.
StingingVelvet: Weird analogy. There are also a lot of scientists who say man-made global warming is a myth, so you know.
jlibster: Of course MS also said similar things about let's see....the Internet, Netscape, Mozilla, Linux, Apple, W3C standards and mobile phones. which leads to the next big gaming platform in which LInux is now HUGE...smart phones. (Android=LInux although I use Cyanogen as its rooted + no Google Apps)...The androids are invading... Smart phone gaming...impossible, absurd? Well, at 4-40Gb of storage capacity and a full PC level OS with Internet connectivity, probably more flexible gaming platform than, say a PSP or NintendoDS.

StingingVelvet: I don't think you are taking my comments at all the right way. I never said there is no potential, I never said there is no merit. You're doing the typical sensitive Linux user thing where you have defend it's potential at every turn. It could take over the entire PC industry in 10 years for all I know, that is not the point.
The point is right now it is infinitely small. Irrelevant to big game publishers. Shit man the PC is almost irrelevant and probably would be irrelevant to them right now if digital distribution hadn't taken off. And you're coming at me with Linux? Come on. It might grow into relevant someday like you believe it will, I am not refuting that. I am saying RIGHT NOW it is not.
My data says not Irrelevant. Just not main stream yet. Google seems beinterested in changing that. as is Apple. The indie developers scene has more power than many believe. After all, Sierra had humble beginnings. So did EA. (back when they actually did cool stuff themselves) I worked at a few garage startups and have seen the potential, even a couple now worth over 100 mil.You may want to check out Hothead Games. they used to make top commercial games for LInux before they were bought by EA. EA is poison for so many amazing developer groups. Once EA gets in the picture, Linux development gets killed. Oh, FrozenByte, makes Linux games. I got a whole database of Linux Commercial Game developers if you are interested.
cloud8521: the OS purely depends on what you want to use it for. gamers should use windows. no one way about it it has the largest gaming support and library of working games. all around it works great and does what it needs to do.
Linux works best as a server, it can do many other things and even act as a desktop but it excels in the server field. it does what it needs to do with little hassle but expecting game support for it is a little much. sure allowing the game servers to run on it is fine, but theres no reason for a gamer to switch to it beyond running servers for it. if you like linux and you like games, then you best keep a windows partition to boot into.
mac... i really dont even know what to say... they are not software dealers. they sell hardware at huge markups.
but for now windows is the choice gaming OS
Personally I thought that title belonged to PS3, and XBox and to a lessor extent Nitendo Wii; DS I think is actually more popular but I could be worng). I predict the next real big gaming platform will be the Android Smartphone. Heck now we have playstation "ceritified" Android Smartphones now so I think the day is sooner than we believe (it almost always is)
