Am presently on my first playthru in Witcher 2 (taking my sweet old time talking to npcs and exploring). Also am playing Witcher 1 on the side as I got a sweet deal at gamersgate.com

On my 2nd playthrough plan on converting the Witcher 1 save. Is it worth it? Is there enought of a difference with the plot and such? Back in the day of Dragon Age origins save conversions to Awakening or Dragon Age 2 the differences were meh, the game really didn't feel any different.....
I found it to be worth it to do the import, as it does change some of the dialogue and backstory. There are some game defaults regarding whether Adda is alive and married to Radovid or dead, who you sided with in the Order/Scoiatel conflict, etc. It also brings in your W1 armor and swords, though the stats are not as good as in W1. For my import, it was a bit better than most of the default equipment. Hope this helps.

Kind regards,
Mythiccat
Yesterday I started over with a default new game and learned that Adda was dead! How does a default witcher kill a striga, when he can lift her curse? Baaaad decision. So I found me a savegame with Adda alive and the general path I wanted to be on. Imported equipment is pretty sweet, too.

Honestly, the only reason I still import my saves from TWEE is that I like the look of the Raven's armor and Aerondite better than the looks of the DLC gears. It's silly, but that's why I do it.
Import! The imported equipment is very good. They were very useful in act 1. I used the imported Sihil sword til middle of act 2! Not to mention you also get extra money and gear from imported games.
Although I feel more immersion when I import a savegame from first The Witcher -you know, when some of the decisions and things that happened are mentioned you are more able of adopting Geralt's role in the story, the whole dialogue about Adda and Radovid when you first meet Foltest in the prologue is a clear example-, I think the best thing about importing game is Raven's armor, by far the best-looking armor I have found in this game -I think its design suits "my idea of" Geralt a lot better than others-. So it definitely worth it...
