This looks like a bug in Witcher 2 Linux version (I'm using gog 1.0.0.4 version.) I was able to trace the cause.
When the game directory is set read-only, whenever saving a game, the save-game file is only 32 bytes long, so it won't show up in the "load game" menu.
When I make the game directory writable, the save game works, but there is a garbage file left in the game directory. It looks like the save-game file was temporarily created there but never deleted.
Since Linux version saves user configuration and save-game files in user home directory, writing any files in the game directory, even temporarily, doesn't make any sense. I hope this is fixed.
Other than this and the crash when quitting, the game is running quite well, so no major complaints.
