Games ARE heavily sexist and mysogenistic. However they usually tend to target the games where thats part of the setting, and valid in the context. Take the Witcher series for example, it's a dark medieval fantasy. You bet your ass women are oppressed. But at the same time so are so many others in the series, dwarves, elves, regardless of their sex. Hell even the Witchers, who frankly are in a worse position than women.
But people tend to fixate on the women and ignore the rest.
However in other games, Far Cry, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Assassins Creed to name a few, having women protagonists (or even the ability to choose man or woman!) would be more than doable. They simply choose not to, and throw out stupid arguments like 'money'.
