Hi all,

Just wondering since I have to upgrade anyway: Does W3 benefit from or even use more than 2GB Video RAM on 1920x1200 resolutions (i.e. not 4K, not multi screen) setups?

I will get 8 instead of 4GB System RAM, but maybe if I get a new GFX card I will also want to double from 2 to 4?
Directly speaking, no but I doubt there are a 2GB card out there fast renough to play highest setting with optimal FPS. For me the game drains between 1GB and 1.3GB with Ultra except foliage and AA.

Yes, using rivatunerstatistic i see usage of 2,5GB of VRAM and 7,5GB of RAM (on 16GB system), on 8GB system usage for VRAM was the same, but RAM dropped to 5,5.
Playing in 1080p with HairWorks (tweaked), mayby without HW its fifferent.
And btw there is some difference between loading times on 8GB system vs 16GB. Also tested on 2GB VRAM card - game is still playable with some sacrifices.
Hope this help :D
If you intend to buy a new gfx card I'd definitly go for a >=4GiB vram card

I am not knowledgeable with the physical speeds of cards etc but I have 8GB of RAM and a 2GB GTX770 and can play with almost all settings on hign and some on Ultra and still get 40 + FPS all game.
Thanks guys.

It depends if I'm going for a "high" upgrade or just some "little refreshement" upgrade... 4GB should be standard today, agree, but if money is tight end of August I should get by on 2GB then.

The amount of VRAM Witcher 3 consumes depends on what resolution, settings and video card you have. Generally speaking, 2GB of VRAM should be fine for Witcher 3 but what matters more is the kind of graphics card you have.

For example a 3.5GB GTX 970 will be faster than a 8GB GTX 980M.

If you're looking to upgrade, a R9 290 Radeon with 15.7.1 drivers on Windows 10 will get you 60fps. You'll have to turn off hairworks but other than that I'm running this game perfectly right now. On my Fury this game will run 60fps even with hairworks on Win10 + 15.7.1 drivers.
