Trying to launch the game (desktop shortcut) it maximizes then goes minimize with blank screen. Is server down?

The GOG Galaxy server. For me to be able to start the game, it takes me to the GOG Galaxy client server. To make the original posting, I had to go to the GOG.com just to post.
Ended up restarting the computer and then the server came up but was very slow at first.

You shouldn't need to connect to the GOG Galaxy server to play the game... GOG games are DRM-free and will run independently unlike Steam games.

You've got a different problem if your game isn't running. They are not dependent on Galaxy in any sense of the word.
