Hey guys!

So I've finally installed the game and started playing it today and I dig it a lot so far. However, I was having this very noticeable and annoying stutter while running around in the forest starting area. The fps, according to Msi afterburner, seemed relatively stable while running around in the forest (45 to 60) while never dropping below 45. Of course, the fps stays a solid 60 while just standing there. I have graphics on medium (except for foliage that's set on low), hair physics are turned off, and post processing is set on low. I mean, I don't think that those settings are too unreasonable considering the set up that I have, maybe I could be wrong?

Specs are:

Intel Core i5 4670K @ 3.40GHz

Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Z97X-UD5H

8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz

2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 (Gigabyte)

650 watts Corsair Bronze

Samsung 250 gigs SSD

I also have the latest Nvidia 353.30 drivers

I really wonder what causes that stutter, it's strange that it happens while the fps never dips below 45, maybe the monitor? I have an Asus VG248QE as the monitor...It doesn't do this with other games such as Dark Souls 2 and Shadow of Mordor.

Any help is appreciated, thanks a lot!

Hey there!

The first thing I would try to do is to disable both V-sync and the in game frame limiter to see if those are the culprit. Some people have reported issues with those.

If that doesn't do anything one of the things that has helped a few people is setting your maximum pre rendered frames to 1. To do this open your Nvidia control panel and on the left select manage your 3D settings (or whatever is closest to that, I can't quite remember). Make sure to select The Witcher 3 from the drop down box and then set Maximum Pre-rendered frames to "1."

Hopefully one of those tweaks will alleviate the stuttering.

Tried those, but didn't help unfortunately. I also tried setting my monitor's refresh rate to 144 hz while having the fps limiter in game off, it did seem to help a little bit, but the stutter was still there, although it was weaker than previously, but now it was constant as i was running in the forest instead of it being in intervals. Also tried different refresh rates (120, 100, 85) with full screen, borderless mode and windowed mode, in combination with the fps limiter on and off, still nothing...

And my fps never dropped below 45. I really don't know if Msi Afterburner is playing tricks on me or whatever, but it seems that the problem is the image that is projected onto the screen and not the fps itself. I'm really stumped as to what the problem is here.

Thank you for your suggestions though, I hope that I find what the problem is. =/

I would keep lowering graphics and see if that make a difference.
If not the problem could be caused by a back ground program on PC.
Turn off anything you can and try and see if that helps.

Nearly the same results with the lowest settings on graphics and post processing.

Gaaaaah, this is driving me nuts. I'm still within my 30 days of guarantee, I think I'm just going to get a refund. I really want to play this game but unfortunately I think there's a problem with my PC or the game or a combination of both.

Sorry those didn't work :/ My last piece of advice would be to try something like RivaTuner Statistics Server to force a frame limit. There's a nice guide on how to do that here: http://forums.cdprojektred.com/threads/36088-A-compendium-of-tweaks-and-fixes-for-the-PC-version
There are also some other nice tweaks on that page I would suggest trying before you go for the refund. Point 10 on that page describes using RivaTuner Statistics Server.

One thing I didn't mention that may help is disabling Nvidia Streamer Service. You can find this under your Administrative Tools > Services. Find Nvidia Streamer Service and right click to select "Properties." Click on stop and then you may wish to change the startup type to disabled, so that you don't have to do that again.

I'm getting into things that are kind of a long shot here, but I know that if it works the relief that comes from smooth, stutter free gameplay is awesome.

And last but not least, you may try rolling back your driver. 353.30 was released for Arkham Knight, but I was having very few problems on the driver before that. It's worth a shot!

I played at 30fps (nvidia vsynch half limited) and before the 1.05 I have a lot stuttering. But with this patch everything is perfect. (everythings maxed out).
The 1.05 solved all my stuttering problemes.

But...
Do you have stuttering when you are walking without the horse?
Because walking with the horse (not running) make the game stutter a little. There are some posts and YouTube video about it.

Tried locking my fps at 60, 59 and 58, still the same results on lowest settings. I seem to get the best performance at full screen, but there's horrible screen tearing and when I switch to borderless, the stutter comes back =/

I've also never bothered to install Nvidia geforce experience, so that wasn't the problem.

And don't be sorry, I greatly appreciate your help, these things just happen, plus that I'm not the best for fixing problems related to games, such is the bane of PC gaming sometimes. I'm going to try to get a refund, I've spent way too much time trying to fix this.

Sad to hear :( I understand it's frustrating though. Hopefully they don't give you any trouble with the refund! GOG is usually pretty good with that from what I understand.

I had this problem when I first stared playing what help me was to lower the tree render distance to high and that stop the stuttering
