Hello everyone,

I'm so glad this game exists.

However, I think that Geralt earns way too much XP.
It is the fist time, in a game, that I don't want to earn XP beause I already have too much. I'm lvl 13 (68 hours) and I always have low level quests compared to me.
Usually, I love to kill ennemies in order to earn more and more XP. Here, it is the contrary.

One side effect is that the game becomes, in fact, very linear. I have still some quests to do in Velen but I want to visit Novigrad, or even put a little forward the main quest? I can't really do that, because if I do, I will leave side quests behind.
If I want to see everything in the game, I actually have to follow a precise routine.

This experience overflow, in the end, breaks my immersion and my freedom feeling.

What do you think about that?
Thanks, and more important, have fun! =)
There a number of mods on the Nexus that alter experience gains. You may be able to find one to your liking!

Experience gains are very hard to critique because the game is sooo open. For example, you could've gone to Skellige at level ~12 and gotten tons of experience for every quest, but you'd outlevel a lot of quests in Velen/Novigrad. It's almost impossible for the developers to cater to everyone's playstyle so they decided to award only 5xp if the quest is too far beneath your level. This should allow to you catch up to quests your level eventually. I, unfortunately, have badly outleveled the main quest, but am close to catching up because even though I'm progressing in the story I'm not gaining more than 5xp per quest. It's hard for me to say whether or not that's a good thing, but it hasn't caused me too many issues I suppose.

It's definitely not perfect, but hopefully one of the mods will work for you!
Well, if you have this common attitude "i'm-not-progressing-until-some-things-are-done" then yes, maybe it is. I guess I did quite the same thing, just running and completing the quests with the lowest level requirement, and the reason was GET THE FULL AMOUNT OF EXPERIENCE BEFORE I GET OP AND EARN NOTHING. But then, I got distracted by something and just felt into some nice chain story that had actually higher lvl requirement than Geralt had at that moment.

Since then, I was having a sweet free roam. It ended up with Geralt being lvl 28 chasing after lvl 7 quest.
Still, finished my game with lvl 35, done A LOT of grey quests.
Witcher 2 and 3 are quite different from 1 and most other rpgs.
You get xp by doing quests, not killing monsters. That said, you do get xp for killing critters, but it's just not enough to even bother.

And what if other quests get greyed out if you level up? It's not like a Witcher wouldn't help a poor sod of a farmer if he has a problem with a level 10 noonwhrite just because he is level 22.

I will probably look at the mods on a second playthrougt! Thanks for the idea =)

Yep, you're totally right. That was my behaviour! But it made the game linear and boring. I want to do what I want when I want, and not to follow a linear optimised path.

That is... absoluely true.
The best option is probably to not care at all. In some RPGs, XP is everything. Most of time it is at least very important. Here, it seems to be a very secondary thing.

Rise the game difficulty to maximum and watch a bunch of lvl 9 Nekkers kill a level 20 Geralt. Problem solved.
I already play in maximum difficulty ;)
Hordes of wolfs / monsters can be very dangerous indeed, even when they are low level. The main reason is that they attack too frequently so it's difficult do dodge. But with alternative Aard, managing groups becomes a lot easier!
