SirPwntALot: This really isnt a game issue, but I got the shortcut for Fallout on my desktop, and the icon appears as some creepy dude I don't recognize... help?
It's a "easter egg" supposedly that's a game dev. It's because your short cuts are set to something like 48x48 instead of 32x32
It's Tim Cain.
In 1997, because standard resolutions were much lower, very few people used large icons. So Tim Cain's cheery face was used as that icon as an Easter egg. Now, because people use higher desktop resolutions, more people use large icons, and so Tim Cain gets to freak people out more often.
Hi, I have an odd problem. I installed everything that was listed in the ultimate pack. Unfortunately now I have a bunch of horizontal black and green lines that block my view. If I move my the pointer over them the area is erased but they come right back whenever I switch to a different screen etc. I tried to take a screenshot but it comes out all messed up and your unable to tell whats what.

Windows XP SP3
Pentium IV 3.0Ghz w/hyperthreading
2 Gigs 400mhz ram
Nvidia Geforce 512mb 9400gt PCI (not express, using oldschool PCI)

I tried just installing the widescreen mod and everything was great but the mouse pointer lagged extremely bad. So I removed the ddraw file and the lag stopped but the horizontal lines were back.

:( It appears I am unable to play this game. Anyone have a solution?

Works like a charm! Going to take awhile to get used to it all, as ive never played Fallout 1 or 2 (thank god for GoG) before, but thanks for the simple install guide, and the rar including everything we need. Made things so much easier.
Anyone got the link to the newer High-res patch mentioned above, appearently NMA doesn't allow gmail accounts as your email
This isn't a technical issue, and for all I know I may be the first person to ever ask it making it by definition not a FAQ, but is there any place I can stash my equipment? Like, if I were to put my stuff in some random bookcase, would it still be there when I came back later? Or is there a specific place where I can do that? I'm coming from Fallout 3, where I stashed a lot of stuff in my Megaton house, so I was wondering if there was something similar in FO1. I'm out of room, lol.

FO1 drove me crazy at first, but I'm starting to really like it. (Just as a side note.)

"So i was gonna buy the game but i first wanted to know if i can play it on windows 7. some ppl say i can others say i cant, can someone let me kno?"

I know you posted that 10 months ago, but I thought I'd say that it so far is working great for me in Win7 64 bit. I'm running it mostly "pure," just the GOG install file and the Ending mod that allows me to keep playing. No res mod. But, just because it works for me doesn't mean it'll work for everyone. I've learned that the hard way (not with this, just in general, if a program works on one Win7 64 bit machine that doesn't mean it'll work on another).

Petrell's Domain -> Downloads -> Fallout
I downloaded this patch pack but whenever I try to play the game my screen goes blank but the sound is working and if I click to skip the intro movie I can hear the menu screen sounds. Can anyone help me please? This is the pack I downloaded http://lodion.net/random/The_Ultimate_Fallout_Installation.rar
I've got a question, do the combat knife and spiked knuckles benefit from the one hander optional trait. I want to make a melee character for my next go through in fallout 1 and i would like to use those weapons for a challenge. Im wondering if its possible.

I always took it for granted that one-hander applied to guns only.

As for a melee character, they're actually really good. Put Luck, Strength, Endurance and Agility really high. Intelligence should be kept as high as you can, lower Charisma all the way down. I think I also lowered Perception the same way. I picked Finesse as a trait - you do 25% less damage but have a 10% higher critical chance. Combined with your Luck bonus (1% per 1 Luck point) you'll crit often. The other starting trait I chose was the one that gives you an extra stat point for each stat but lowers your skill points. It's fine for a melee character since you'll only really need to put stuff into melee - whatever else you chose is just a bonus (I chose Sneak and Gamble - I now have an endless supply of money since I almost always win at roulette).

Then choose the level up perks of Bonus HtH Damage (several times) and the ones that raise critical chance and lower how many AP a melee attack takes. You'll be able to punch for only 2AP and do a targeted attack for only 3AP. When you get the power fist you'll be doing some crazy damage. At the start of the game I would frequently only do about 2-4 damage with the brass knuckles - just now I critically hit a Deathclaw in the eye for 120 damage. Dogmeat can't even damage it at all. Spiked knuckles aren't that much worse than the power fist, they're certainly on a far higher tier than the knife or brass knuckles.

Edit
Just realised how old that post is - I'm sure this thread was highlighted as having new responses in...

Edit 2
Damn, I meant to write "I only did 2-4 damage" but ended up writing "204 damage". Corrected it now.

Your best bet would be to post your problem in the topic I linked. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
The FAQ mentions teamx 1.3.4 patch. Is there any reason to use this over the 1.3.5 patch? I've been using 1.3.5 without problems so far.
