What will you do with a drunken whaler early in the morning?

Nantucket is coming soon, DRM-free on GOG.com.
Whales are majestic beasts. Damn-near mythical, by some accounts. But Moby Dick - well, he's another story entirely. As you assume the role of a daring whaler, customizing your crew, charting a course, and trying to score big against the forces of nature or the hazards of seafaring, the pale demon will be waiting for you. Will you conquer the curse that consumed Cpt. Ahab? Or will you drown in it?

Hickory: And virtually every other game on the planet, where you kill untold numbers of humans is *not* repulsive? It's a game.

BlueMooner: Pffft, crybabies, I don't see any problem. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to play slave tetris. /s
No Windows, no Whaling. (No Linux support -- problem solved... Or didn't it?)
For those interested in the game's storyline and those who are afraid of another-random-driven-procedurally-generated-roguelike - here is some additional info. For me it looks more and more interesting.

And don't be crazy with the theme. It's only a game. What about Dungeon Keeper, Flatout, Bloodlines or other titles like that? Hunting whales was, is, and will be always stupid as hell, but it does not mean you cannot enjoy playing nice game based on historical events and myths!
I dunno. This all seems a little fishy if you ask me.

Not mammally?

You... I was gonna post this but felt a little compelled not to! ;p
One of 2018's most "love or hate" comments heh
From the trailer, I expected something else, but I still liked.

Sorry to say this though, but you PC guys are being quite weird. This is a game based on a fictional story.

A game.

What gives about having feelings about some whales in a game? Do you guys feel pity when killing some random people in GTA as well? Or anything at all? Anything, sorry about this. In the end, it's your money and your time, so, play what you feel like.

To be honest? Yes, a bit. I've played only GTA1 years ago, but I remember weird feeling when killed innocent people by purpose or even by accident.

But this game - come on. Whalers are fascinating part of world history. It's the same as adventurers from the past centuries - a lot of their actions are totally unacceptable today, but it's great we have computer games allowing us to do those stupid things without any harm to anyone.

Agreed. For those sensitive about stuff that is not acceptable any more, the developers can take three options:

- Paint it as it was, in all its ugliness. Like in Crusader Kings II. There, the limits to female officers were apparent, and actually it made you feel sorry about all the wasted potential of women because of the social conventions at the time.

- Twist history to make it more edible to modern audicences. Like in Expeditions: Conquistador. There, women take any kind of occupation. This has the disadvantage of removing all suspension of disbelief for those who know anything at all about the period, and of disinforming those who do not.

- Make changes optional. Like in Nobunaga's Ambition: Sphere of Influence. There, female officers are optional, you can choose it ad libitum. Also, in some hunting games, you have the option of using sleeping darts, with the drawback that they take a short while to take effect.

It seems that Nantucket took the first route. Maybe they might have made a fantasy game where the whalers, say, harvest some product (that will regrow) from whales somehow without killing them. Why not? But that would be a different game.

Anyway, this ought to be a kind of game that I might like. Loved Moby Dick as well. Only that I cannot bring myself to try this game. It would be the same if it was killing elephants or dolphins. Too bad (for me). But good luck to the game and to the developers. It looks like love was put into this game.

Edit: expeditions, not explorations.

Nantucket is supposed to release today. It's going to unlock on Steam in about two hours. I really want my money to go to GOG though haha! Is there any ETA on when the game will be available for purchase here today?
