It didn't appear he followed through with the boycott. The original post says "I've bought 30 games on GOG and have only had a problem with one" but his profile shows he has 81 games. Did he buy 51 games in the past 15 hours? I guess it's possible. He also has reviews for two games that are only two years old. Wouldn't a boycott include reviews? Is "Verified owner" applied retroactively?

I don't know the original poster or have anything against him, by the way. Just making observations.

How many free games does GOG give out per year. Think about that and then think about how long it's been since my post in 2015. Let's see how many games I've actually bought since then, shall we?

Now I received 5 games as gifts from family which are:

I left reviews for Turok and Star Wars as respect for the developers. I hadn't even touched either Shantae games at that time.

ALSO not to mention that both Xwing and Tie Fighter are each counted as 3 instead of one because there are 3 versions.So those 2 games actually are counted as 6. Jedi Knight is also counted as 2 instead of one due to the expansion and Shadow Warrior is counted as 2 due to the added DX11 version. Also the Overload Demo still counts as 1. So let's take away 7 from the total count.

That's 47 games in my account that I did not purchase with my own money.

So that leaves a count of 34 games that I did purchase with my own money. GOG sent out the notice of their new refund policy on Feb. 27 2020. So do you think that it just might be possible for me to have bought just a handful of games between then and now especially with the Easter sale? I don't know......I still might be a hypocrite LOL

GOG kept it to game-breaking bugs because PC gaming is a fickle mistress and technical problems are often just part of the ride. Your issue is not game-breaking, and I wouldn't give you a refund either.

I don't care what you think. I along with many other people were right. Do you think GOG put this policy in place because of people like you? No. If everyone was like you we would not only be stuck with broken games, but they wouldn't be getting fixed later down the road either which by the way, the music in Outlaws did end up getting fixed many months later after it was released. There's no way you can spin this so stop trying. Even though you're a rather inconsiderate person, I would have given you a refund because it would have been the right thing to do. Now you can get a refund if you need one. You're welcome.

Just because GOG changed their refund policy, that does not mean that doing so was a good decision. It wasn't a good decision.

All it will accomplish, for the most part, is to cause GOG to lose massive amounts of money to scammers, who easily can (and probably do) abuse the policy to get as many free games as they want.

And the only thing GOG gets in return for changing the policy was a day or two worth of good PR from the fake news games journalism that most gamers don't even care about in 2020. And that good PR's brief effect has already been fully exhausted a long time ago.

Yet the financial burden that will be caused via GOG having opened themselves up to being scammed will continue forever, or until GOG goes bankrupt, or until they reverse this very unwise refund policy change (which hopefully will happen before scammers bankrupt them by abusing it).

Moreover, contrary to what your quoted post says:

a) Steam's refund policy is terrible.

b) Steam only implemented that terrible refund policy in the first place because they were legally forced to do so by a court of a law. Yet your quoted statement makes it sound like they did it out of the kindness of their hearts, ROFL!

You think so small. GOG is not a tiny company running out of someone's house. They have thousands of patrons who are willing to pay money for games. Sometimes they will even not wait for a sale to buy games. So how much money would they stand to lose from potential customers who are afraid of making a purchase that they may regret because it doesn't work on their system vs. the loss of some people buying and returning a game? I'll give you time to think about it.

Ok? Have you thought about it? Good. Here's the answer. It is so ridiculously easy on PC to pirate games that you don't have to go into a place that's even remotely dark on the web to do it. Almost all of those who want to steal games will just use Google. You may have a select few who are lame enough that they will attempt to abuse the policy. However that group of people is massively outnumbered by the amount of people who won't buy from a place that has a bad refund policy like GOG had. Mind you that refunds are all traceable by GOG and they reserve the right to refuse to refund in the event they find someone is abusing it. Also you still have to contact support to see if the problem can be resolved. So I seriously doubt that a pirate wannabee is going to go through all of that hassle just to get a free game. Your logic doesn't hold up, sorry. If you want to, next time if you have a game that doesn't work you can refuse the refund and just buy it again so you can keep GOG from going under if that makes you feel better. Stand strong, brother.

I disagree about Steam's refund policy being terrible. At lest if you played a game for under 2hrs and didn't like it and it was less than 14 days you could refund it. Before GOG updated their refund policy you could not do that. I do agree that GOG is allowing way too much leeway with their refund policy. They need to tighten it up a tad.

Indeed, to me a boycott would mean ceasing use of the service rather than "well I didn't get any of those games with my own money".
