Like a boss.

Hollow Knight, the charmingly morbid Metroidvania about a bug's life and many deaths, just received another free update called Lifeblood.

It is crawling with bug fixes, optimizations, and welcome tweaks, while also adding a brand new boss (which comes with its own kick-ass music track!), custom map markers, and additional sound effects and voices, among other things.

Sorry, but I'm about to barf this link all over the most recent news posts because I think this topic deserves more visibility. Given my experiences with GOG during the past year users will be informed after the fact and in a footnote. So go get yourself informed:

Introducing new privacy settings (official "announcement")

You might also want to check your new privacy settings for the upcoming update. Because several users (including myself) had been set to default values that weren't intended - even by GOG.

You should warn every user in private message, many of them don't read the forum.
Thanks for the suggestion bela555, but my privacy settings don't allow for that.

[Edit:]
On a more serious note though: This is literally the most visible I could get and I actually have already messaged my friends about this.

reative00: Ah ok, that's explains a lot. I thought that poster I was quoting was pissed at Team Cherry for not delivering Linux updates and thought that's butthurt isn't really justified for such small company, but seems like they're good guys after all.
If you don't feel stupid, you should. It's GOG that has been historically bad at Linux updates, not the devs.
I installed Hollow Knight and UnderRail on Friday, and I was so looking forward for a weekend of gaming, eating and sleeping... God dammit, real life, you just had to get in my way. :(

Hearing that there's a new content patch coming, Gods&Glory, takes some of the sting out of it, but still...

Maybe mention it in original post then, retard, instead of making everyone guess why there's another asshole whining about his 1.5%-market-share-platform not getting priority treatment.

Don't you have some schools to shot instead of shitposting on the forum?

Wow, a joke about school shootings. Because senseless human suffering and death is hilarious, right bro? Another quality post from reative00, folks.
Really interested in this game. But after browsing through the reviews I still have some doubts:

- How annoying is the need to replay certain parts over and over due to the sparse number of save points, such as after losing a boss fight? I read there is no save point before the bosses.

- How much back-tracking is there? Is there any fast-travel feature?

- How about the bugs? Is there anything game-breaking one can run into?

- How is the difficulty level? Can an average player finish the game without too much frustration?

1. Depends on bosses, really, but the truth is that several of them have indeed annoying locations and it'll take you a minute or two to get back to them.

2. There is fast travel between all big "biomes", and there will be a bit of back-tracking especially during the end game.

3. Haven't encountered any gamebreaking ones on release build, but I dunno now.

4. This is a tricky one as I don't know what is "an average" player; some bosses are hard but fair; there's some frustration (Bloodborne, Souls series) but overcoming it is satisfying as hell. Hardest fights (trial of fools, boss in one of the content pack) are optional.

Whatever you decide, I recommend waiting a bit longer for the last content pack - Gods&Glory.

I would say the game is very do able with minor frustration for the average player as long as they dont try to go for the True(Sercret ending). I say this only because you end up redoing boss fights over again but they hit harder and have there attacks changed or speed up depending. I'm not going to mention Buzz saw palace. IMO i think that is where the game gets a bit more frustrating but it never feels unfair just punishing for making the wrong move or not being on point.

With that said we all have deffirant levels of what we find Frustrating. So just keep in mind that this game is ment to be challanging but not overly so.
I am an average player and I had no real problems except that I can´t beat the arena fight "Trial of Fools". And there is some hidden boss, that kills me in 2 seconds.

reative00:
I would also like to add my 2 cts. since I consider myself more of a casual gamer due to time constraints. I am definitely NOT a hardcore gamer.

1)) As it has been said: there are several points where you usually have to travel a bit before getting to the boss again and yes, it is annoying - it's a true punishment. BUT because of this and because of the fact that these ways will also train you in beating the lower enemys it will also give you practice to beat the boss as well. This game needs a lot of practice especially if you are no hardcore gamer like me. However this game also is addicting as hell and if you have patience it's possible to do this - it was for me. In addition to this don't forget that this game has an extremely interesting skills system (charms that you wear and that can be conbined in several ways leading to different strengths) so that sometimes just the right charms (that you will have to find first) will make your life much easier. Because of this you will always have different ways to beat the bigger enemys.

2) You will unlock several fast tracking points and with the Hidden Dreams update they also introduced another quick travel sytem which basically lets you set a fast travel route wherever you want it ... however to even access it you will have to play the game quite some while. Keep in mind: in this game nothing comes for free. You want a map? Search for it. You want a compass? Buy it - but if you use it, it will also cost you some charm notches - meaning less additional charms you can wear. It sounds cruel but imo it's genius. You work for everything and you get a reward for everything you achieved. The more tasks you solved (even the optonal ones) the easier the game will be.

3) No game breaking bugs I know of. Key rebinding is still pretty buggy if you want to use your mouse buttons as well. With the new DLC it will also freeze the game in map mode when you assign keys to your thumb mouse button. I don't know of any problems when using a controller (the game was designed for a controller and it's much more comfortable to play it this way. I used to play every game with keyboard and mouse - even this one - but I ended up usintg a controller here and it really makes a difference imo).

4) Like I said - I am by no means a hardcore gamer and I beat the game now at 98% (there are several slightly different endings and the "true" ending can only be achieved after managing a cruel jump and run section). At the moment I have 2/3 of the jump and run section done and I never thought I would even be able to do this. I also managed to get one of the more difficult achievements (Solace) which also earned me my last mask shard (several mask shards = additional health). So yes, even without a difficulty option the game can be managed by an average player as well - I am proof (although I also played nearly 100 hours until now ... well worth the money).
