Nirth: I saw that a few months ago and I was greatly surprised. I didn't like the side arc that is revealed at the end but the focus on language was intriguing. What made you say it's somewhat overhyped?
Reception by the folks in general. It's solid and really well-made sci-fi movie of the thoughtful variety, something that is rather rare, especially when it comes to the mainstream. However, it didn't feel quite as groundbreaking as some people were making it out to be. The Primer is more thorough, the Annihilation, I feel, explores its theme more in-depth and The Moon pulls off few amount of locations far better. In the end, Arrival exists, in my opinion, in this strange in-between state where it doesn't do some single aspect extremely well, even if to determent of other aspects. For me personally 2001:The Space Odyssey it not.
