rtcvb32: Why weird? You don't glance at your phone and see you have 20,000 photos? From multiple takes of a guy on a horse and then cropping it, to what you had for lunch, or what you saw on sale at the garage sale to your friends to see if they needed something? To images brought in from Messenger/Telegram, to wallpapers you added at the start but never use?
I meant weird as a comparison to games you bought and did not play. I can't see any similarities there. (And I can't for the life of me find that shot of a guy on a horse - maybe I do have too many pictures on my phone! ;) )

LesTyebe: I used to think the idea of owning too many games was one of those "impossible by definition" topics, kinda like rational online political discussion.
In reality, it is personal and how you rationalize things. Me I look at it this way.
It is doubtful I will ever have a lot of money and be rich.
However, there is more than one type of rich ... rich in family, rich in friends, rich in experiences, rich in goods, and so on.
Rich in goods for me is about collections and having choice.
I don't necessarily buy something because I fully intend to use or play it, rather that I can have it there in case I ever want to or maybe someone else does ... I like to share too, with family & friends.
I don't just collect anything though, there still has to be enough of an interest, and I am fully aware I only have so many hours a day, week or in my life. But as I said, it's not all about me.
Richness may well be a state of mind and perhaps in some cases an illusion, but life is for living and you only get one chance from what I can tell. So spoil yourself rotten and consider others when doing so.
LesTyebe: Now I'm not so sure. Two or three times in the past month or so, I've opened the store without signing in to look at the sales, been intrigued by something, logged in and discovered the item of intrigue already in my library.
No harm there, and life is full of distractions, so one shouldn't be expected to remember them all. And as they say, variety is the spice of life.

It doesn't matter if you have 1 game or 10.000 games - you only need to play one.... the one in front of you on your system of choice. The problem arise when you begin to think of the other 9999 games so just don't do that.

Agreed.
Expanding the collection increases both the actual choices and the general sense of having more choice.
Viewed from this angle, "too many games" is closer to impossible than not. Similar to a library having too many books.

I have too few. I always accept donations! XD
Yes, I know my GOG profile says 865, but believe it or not I played nearly all of them.
Besides, some were re-purchases of old classics I lost in time or I have difficulties in running from the box (I sold most of them anyway) and some were free games GOG gave away by default or in special occasions I really never had interest in.

I think all of us, at a fundamental level, have too many games because of the fact that there ARE more important things in life. However, just like with any hobby, there's nothing wrong with enjoying things as long as you're responsible with it. If you can comfortably swing life's expenses and you don't have people to provide for, more power to you in grabbing as many games as you'd like.
As for me, I say I have too many because I simply don't have the time to play them all. I have so many great games that I love but not enough time to truly finish most of them. I've really spent the past couple months trying to narrow things down a bit, focusing mostly on the games I love the most alongside some other games I haven't played which look particularly intriguing. The rest will remain on the backlog indefinitely.

you can never have too many games. you need to collect them and virtually store them and jump in them and swim like a virtual dolphin in them.
