God of War i almost completely detached from the previous God of War games, as in the barest of story points are included, including how the original trilogy ended for Kratos. And at one point we get a pretty neat call back to the original games in the form of an item. But generally the game is pretty well standalone.

Like I said in this other thread, rumours has it that the Collection is coming too. They might have used the Uncharted 4 logo for no specific reason.
